"Men don't cry" 😑🙄

So me and my fiancé (aged 24) were sitting on the couch watching a movie with dinner and he randomly says that he misses his grandad who passed away 6 months ago and he's been thinking a lot about him lately. His voice sounded like he was about to cry so I pulled him into my arms and cuddled him. Fiancé then said he's not crying. He had tears on his face lol. I was like, no come here baby it's ok I'll cuddle you better, just let your tears out you're safe with me. And he kept on insisting that he's fine, he's not crying. Like man I can literally see the tears in your eyes and on your face. I just want him to feel like he can let his emotions out and cry into my chest. Which he does on rare occasions. But he can be quite a lot of "men don't cry" mentality. Any tips on how to change this man?? And also do any of you have a partner who's like this too?

Maybe reassurance, it's better to cry it's a way to regulate emotion sometimes it's needed. I'm a cry baby to the max but it's bc of my hormones being super high

Eh I mean he could have been fine. He teared up a bit but he’s probably fine after that. Every so often I might get a little sad about my grandma dying but I don’t need to cuddle someone. And what you said might have been too much for him. I’m not the emotional type so if someone said that to me I’d be like no stop being so mushy I’m fine leave me alone. So maybe next time if you notice him being sad just ask if he wants to talk about it and if he says no then just leave it and maybe cuddle with him if he wants but I wouldn’t pull him closer to you or tell him to cry on you or anything like that. He might have thought that was over the top and that’s why he didn’t want to talk more about it

You shouldn't try to change him. Let him be. If he wants to he will change on his own.

I had something similar happen with my husband. I just sat there listening and validating him and it naturally came out. Cuddling would've been too much in the moment I think.
