I need to start avoiding my neighbors..

they are huge smokers and want to walk up and touch all over my son… they started saying how they can’t wait to hold him… I know I should just tell them no but it feels so awkward, especially since they live right across the street. Any tips?

Kindly be honest.

It feels weird but you’re absolutely right to prioritize your sons health. Just a few ideas: Blame it on the Pediatrician: You can gently say something like, "Oh, our pediatrician recommended we avoid having people hold him for now, just to keep him safe, especially with all the illnesses going around." This gives you an easy out without making it personal. Highlight His Age and Fragility: Emphasize that he's a newborn and that you’re being extra cautious, particularly with germs or scents like smoke. "He's still really little, so we're being super careful about who holds him." If they ask to hold him, you can redirect by offering to let them see him from a distance, saying, "He’s a bit fussy today, but you can see him from here!" Keep things light to ease any awkwardness. Just keep avoiding if you can lol I have a similar situation and it’s hard!

Across the street would be pretty easy. They just need to go change into a clean shirt, tie their hair back, brush their teeth, and wash their hands! As soon as they get all the smoke smell off, ok!
