If bio mum leaves her baby on the street in the cold unattended and leaves (permanently - on purpose), should she still have parental rights?

I'm watching Little fires everywhere and it's really got me scratching my head on what opinion/whose side to take. Children are always going to seek out their bio parents, but I'm also really mad about what the bio mum did, I don't care about the reason why. Who leaves their BABY on their own at night in the cold and doesn't look back? "Oh maybe someone will save her" - they did. And they are the reason the baby is alive, not you. If it was only up to your actions, your baby could have been dead. If the baby died, the mother would have gone to prison. Why does she get to claim the baby because it survived? What do you ladies think?

Answered shouldn't have rights but side bar, is that show worth watching?

That was a tough one for me. Cause I know she left the baby at the fire station so they could take care of her better, but I'm wondering why she didn't try to find like a women and children's shelter

@Becca ooh okay some details are missing here

@Becca I'm not from US, so I was wondering if this option was unavailable to her because she was an illegal immigrant?

@Melanie I'm three or four episodes in and I'm hooked 😅😅 there are some cringey moments but as a parent now I find them interesting too, gets my mind going on how I'd handle them 😅😅

Aah I think I found a new show then! Thank you! Lol

@Melanie happy to help 😄 let me know if you change your mind once you've seen it for yourself haha xx

No it sounds good! I'll be back to report out 🫡

Sounds like another reason why baby hatches should be more widespread and accessible.

@ incognito , I think it would've been available to her! It should've been at least

@Becca problem is a lot of illegal immigrants might not know that. Just like even tho a lot of states have laws protecting you from drug charges if you call an ambulance for someone who's likely overdosed at a party - a lot of college kids don't know that this law exists, and may not call for fear of persecution. Safe haven laws are awesome but people need to know about them in order for them to work.

I'm back! Soo I realized I watched this show already, or started watching it? It's good! On the topic of the question, I don't think Bebe should have got her rights back as her mother. The entire premise of her taking her to the fire station was giving her up, not to come back later on. I'm sure that sounds harsh but just my opinion

@Melanie hahaha that happens to me too sometimes 😂 I think I agree with you actually. I also didn't see the kidnapping coming, but honestly it makes sense if you take into account she's fine with breaking the law 😅😅

Gasp!! What kidnapping?? Lol I haven't finished yet! But I'm actually not surprised
