Birth weight on Metformin

Baby is already measuring 14th centile at 35+3 and I have been put on metformin due to unstable blood sugars. I’ve seen that this can cause low birth weight and am worried due to baby already measuring small. I have another scan at 37+3 to measure baby and they’ll decide then on induction at 38-39 weeks.

My lo weighed 6lbs 4 Oz at birth I was on 1 pill at dinner of metaformin for about 4 weeks

This is my worry. My first was 7lbs 1oz and I was only diet controlled. This time I’ve developed GD later (34 weeks) and they’ve only monitored me for 5 days before putting me on metformin twice a day. I only had 3 high readings (8.2 being the highest) in those 5 days and just feel a bit shocked that they’re medicating me so quickly when babys already small

I've been on Metformin and insulin in both pregnancies. With my first she weighed 6lbs 6oz when born at 39 weeks but I believe this was due to low papp-a (which is known for making smaller babies). I just had 36 week scan and have no low papp-a and baby already weighs 6lbs 6oz this time so I don't think Metformin has had any affect on baby size.

That’s good news, I’m new to it but I was just told that low birth weight is a side effect of it so it’s got me a little worried for early induction as she’s already quite small

My son was measuring low on his legs at 32 weeks. And they said metformin could be the cause obviously I went into panic mode and took myself off them for the next 4 weeks, got measured again and he was fine caught up and had him two weeks later at 7lb he’s now 8 months and is on 75th percentile
