Yes usually you’ll get home visits or have postnatal clinic appointments on 1st day home, day 5 & day 10 as standard, then if all is well on day 10 you’ll be discharged. Some families are kept on for longer up to 28 days. The health visitor will arrange to see you when baby is around 10-14 days old.

Felt like a never ending barrage of midwives, health visitors, breast feeding workers etc.

We had amazing support from both the midwives and health visitors. If you feel like you need more support - ask. And depending on where you live, there are other services available. For example we went to a community hospital after giving birth (at the main a&e hospital) where me and my partner stayed for 5 nights and the midwives supported us through those first days/nights with baby as we didn’t have any family to help us. It was an absolute life line for us and wasn’t something many women in my area were aware of. You don’t need to have had a complicated birth/pregnancy or be struggling to access things like this, you’ve just got to find out what’s on offer in your area and ask for it - your midwife will be the best person to help you with that
