I think I’ve just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes

I say I think because I only took to test this morning but the nurse mentioned my blood sugar was pretty high before even drinking the glucose drink. On the second look they’ve already given me a blood sugar monitor and have told me not to do anything yet and it’s “just in case” definitely not a fan of this as I personally feel gaslit 🙃 However I wanted to know of anyone who has been diagnosed and how pregnancy went for them. Google has scared the shit out of me and I currently just feel like it’s one thing after another with this pregnancy 🥲

A Friend of mine had GD and was induced at 38weeks, had a healthy baby delivered and an another friend from developed sepsis after induction and ended up having a section.Every one's experience is different and having GD doesn't mean you will have all the complications. Sometimes average babies can also be born and you will know it only with the growth scans.Presently, I am also diagnosed with GD and it's been 3 weeks since I started monitoring my sugar levels...the first week was terrible, the biggest challenge was acknowledging it and adopting changes to the lifestyle. Over thinking and stress can increase sugar levels, so it's better to stop worrying. Had my first growth scan, met a doctor, diabetes consultant and a nutritionist and asked questions for almost 1.5hrs & analysed why Ievels are high. They gave me an option to choose between metformin and insulin, but I requested another week to change my lifestyle and thankfully it seems working.

I got diagnosed at 28weeks, currently 34. My fasting readings was slightly high but my bloods after the glucose drink were fine. I was so overwhelmed with the diagnosis, I really thought the test of the pregnancy was going to be shit but I'm still diet controlled and I can mainly eat my normal diet. I've just cut down on sweet snacks and fizzy drinks and I've only had 3 high numbers since diagnosis and there was reasonable expectations behind them. So far it's looking like I'm going to need no intervention before 41 weeks. Can still have the birth I want. If you need medication and your levels are well managed then not much should change. If your levels can't be managed then that's when intervention is needed.

It can also change down the line and as we get closer to the due date, the sugar levels couldn't be managed through diet and lifestyle changes. So, please be open to any medication and having more protein+physically active is the key.

I had it last time and it's have it this time too. Diet controlled in my last pregnancy up until the few weeks at the end where I needed metformin for fasting levels. This time I'm managing well with after meal numbers and diet, but again, my fasting levels were way too high. Even with metformin. So now I'm on metformin and slow release insulin at bedtime. Numbers are in range so nothing to worry about now. It's definitely best to be diagnosed if you have it, as it's usually uncontrolled sugars that cause any issues , so at least you can get a handle on it 😀 If you go to gestationaldiabetes.co.uk there's loads of information and they also have a Facebook page to help you with dietry stuff etc xx

I had my test yday, I'm currently still awaiting results which I was led to believe would be in the morning 🙈. I'll be leaving shortly to go to work, so hoping it is a text as I was told as I may not be able to answer my phone at work. Unsure why you'd be given anything as precautionary though, maybe it's different at different trusts? X
