Dentist

When would you take baby to dentist? She has 1 tooth but I keep seeing people taking as soon as tooth pops through. I rang the dentist and they told me not to bother until they are 3.

My little ones appointment is tomorrow! I’m from Nottingham & the advice I’ve had is take them as soon as they get a tooth but not sure if that’s more to get them used to going more than anything Maybe if you can, ring a few different ones & see if they say the same thing 🤷🏽‍♀️ cus the dentist probably doesn’t have any thing great to look at til they’re 3 but surely it’s nicer for parents & children to go when they’ve been used to it from a much younger age x

@Cheska that's what I've heard, but if they go when they're 1, will they remember it when they're 2? (Assuming you do 1 visit a year)

@Nina that’s true, not sure if it’s every 6 months like adults or if they do make them wait a year? I was thinking between visits, talking about the dentist & playing pretend dentists to try giving them some concept of going to the dentist before actually going (not that this would 100% help with all children)

we’ve had our first appointment. I sat in the chair with her and the dentist hysterically asked us if she had teeth and chatted to her for a minute that was it. It was the same time we had our appointments

I haven’t but I did go myself and asked whilst I was there. The dentist said as soon as one pops through, she has two now but I’ll just take her on my next check up

My little girl has already had 1 appointment and has her second in November - she still doesn't have any teeth & turned 9 months yesterday. I'm from Wales, my dentist wouldn't take her on without seeing her 🤷🏽‍♀️ they sat her in the chair had and had a little look in her mouth, gave us some tips on caring for her teeth when they come through and what to look out for. It was more to get her familiar with the dentist I think x

@Chloe I'm in Wales as well, tried getting her with them and they said the dentist doesn't recommend until 2/3 which I thought was strange as it's ' a waste of £25'

Ooh I'm not sure then? Is your dentist NHS? Or private? Ours is a NHS one so there was no cost for little one but they literally wouldn't put her on the books until they had seen her despite me saying she had no teeth 🙈 she was only 4 months at her first appointment x

When baby starts getting teeth definitely get them seen by a dentist. It’s more so they get familiar with there surroundings so each dentist trips gets more comfortable for them 😊
