Best dog food

Hey guys, so I have a 100lbs German Shepard dog, we’ve been back and forth between the purina one lamb and rice combo and purina pro plan, what dog food is best for her and her health and her coat and what not? Pic of my big oof below ❤️

I have a 100lb gsd too! We currently have him on half blue buffalo and half cooked food. We meal prep his cooked food every Sunday. We have a crock pot that we fill with whatever meat we can get from our farmers market along with a variety of safe vegetables and just let it cook and will add it to his dry food throughout the week.

There both fine but pro plan has slightly higher nutrient density so don't have to feed them as much

@Lorri🌱 not everyone has the time or the resources to cook fresh food especially enough for every meal

Taste of the wild w/ grains. Salmon protein in particular, that is the best for their coat and stomach. I also have a shepherd and did a lot of research.

Purina is great because they are Aafco tested. Make sure to stay away from grain free options. This can cause heart issues in some breeds and dogs. But both of your choices are great options! Purina one you'll find more readily

We have a 100+ black lab and an 83 pound Belgian malinois. We took them off Purina pro plan and switched to Tractor Supply 4Health. They have a large breed adult food that they love and it keeps them in shape better than any other food we’ve tried

My dad had our Shepard hukies on purina. I’d switch them to Nulo though if I was able to afford it. Just on my little 8lb cat I spend 100 a pop on her for it. It’s well worth it for her. Not too sure about the boys. However purina for those big boys bc they go through 50 lbs plus a week

I personally have been paid out TWICE from blue buffalos class action lawsuits. So We switched to 4health lamb from tractor supply, our dogs love it - and my large Weimaraner/Mountain cur mix's coat is way less itchy and flakey since the switch.

Vet tech here! Blue Buffalo causes so many issues with protein in the urine and recurrent UTI’s. Purina Pro Plan is a great line or Hills Science Diet or Royal Canine is great, too. They are created with veterinarians on staff. For a large breed dog, I would get one of those brands formulated for larger breeds so it has more support for her joints!

My two chihuahuas are on Purina pro plan and they do not have GI issues with that. One my chis has a very sensitive stomach.

Depends on the budget you’re working with! Air dried dog foods have my dogs coat & overall health so fantastic in under 2 weeks every time we switch back to it. Front of the pack is my dogs favorite but my wallet is seeking a break from that LOL Sundays for dogs is another air dried dog food company I hear good things about (: there’s more companies too! I see more localized brands at local pet shops (:

Both are great options and meet WSAVA guidelines! Pro Plan is going to have a narrower formula to meet more specific needs. So, if you can afford it, some people prefer it.

Ex vet text here. to me neither r that great

I work in the pet care industry and have done tons of research on food. I highly recommend browsing the website: https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com

I personally feed my dogs (2 large breed pups) Taste of the Wild Salmon Protein — I’m on a budget and I found that it has some of the best quality ingredients and not a lot of unnecessary additives without being super expensive. I’d say it’s like the cheapest of the highest quality kibble plus doesn’t have a bunch of recalls.

I do purina one large breed, it’s the best of my 90lb gsds stomach, I usually do chicken because my pup gsd has a lighter tum

@Victoria my gsd literally rather starve himself then eat it, I tried for a week and he started showing ribs so I immediately had to figure something out (I was homeless at the time so I really wanted to make that food work)

@Shanon this is exactly what I did that’s crazy! I had a wolf dog before my 1st gsd and yea instinct was a must and was so amazing would def recommend the dried bits they sell to the op (original poster) but then after about a year in to only have my gsd I switched to purina and it was the closet in quality for price also had a good flavor

I have two GSDs two and I'm been feeding them a raw meat diet homemade
