Sons actual age

I saw yesterday that I may be counting my babies age all wrong! He was born 6th May, so I have been counting the weeks, meaning yesterday he was 21 weeks old, so a little over 5 months. But I saw that after the first month, people are counting it from the 6th of every month, so technically he wouldn’t be 5 months till this Sunday. On the NHS website it says that they count in weeks until they are 6 months, and from then on count in months. So which is it? Is my baby 5 months 1 week, or 5 months on Sunday?

He’ll be 5 months on 5th October. Months don’t have the same number of days and therefore don’t have the same number of weeks as each other which is why it can be confusing x

It's like my son will be 13 weeks when he turns 3 months on the 22nd October. Months and week's don't run the same because each month has different amount of days. If each month was 28 days then your child would be 5 months 1 week old Hope this makes sense to you and makes you less confused ☺️

Use weeks for when they are super young. So like up to 24weeks. After that, just use months. No one is gonna know how old your child is if you say 26 weeks, but if you say 6m they will. The weeks vs months thing is mainly about development, which in the first 6m is rapid. Those milestones then start progressing to like 4-6weeks and then even more spread out post 12m. And then again, after about 18m-23m, most people just use years.

I never knew this, I've been using months since my LO was 4 months old and just went with the date she was born on 🤷‍♀️😅

Same. I’ve just been using months after 3 months to be honest, and if he’s in between, I would say 3 and a half months and so on. This is also the way all the other mamas refer to their LO in the children centre that I’ve attended, so I guess it’s probably the easiest method (saves having to do mental math every time someone mentions double digit weeks 🤣😭)

When would everyone class their little one as 6 months old and ready for solids? I was going by the 24 weeks would be them being 6 months, but I would actually be 2 weeks early if going by the date they were born? It’s all very confusing!

6 months is 26 weeks. 24 weeks is 5.5 months.

My little one was also born on the 6th May! I use months as she isn’t 5 months until Sunday and it makes it easier for other people to understand and the weeks make her older than she is and I don’t want to think of her as older 😂 Realistically it’s completely up to you and what your more happy & comfortable with ❤️ x
