Speech and language

Hi guys, anyone been discharged from speech and language after first appointment and told the best thing is for a paediatrics referral? I’m so confused as to what this means? The appointment was so much to take in and in the moment i just acted like I understood stupidly

Not really any idea why they would do this we are with a lady from speech and language and a lady from portage and pedestrians as well. They don’t discharge you unless they feel like they can’t help or that your child seems to be doing well. Does your child talk at all why did you use the service? X

@Lauren she doesn’t talk in sentences however can say most words and not in context, the health visitor wants an autism assessment done but said we needed to see speech and language first to understand the communication delay, however speech and language said they cant help and a paediatrics referral is all she can offer. I’m going to ask nursery when i drop her off as we all had an appointment together, I’m unsure what the paediatrics referral would be for?

So we have been to 1 paediatrician appointment and then we have one this month. From what i understand they can talk through any concerns you have and they can actually refer you for an autism assessment this is what we are currently going through. My son is completely non verbal. X

There's no harm in reaching out to who you had your appointment with again for clarity. Jot down a list of questions as a reminder and give them a call. I do this all the time otherwise I find myself going down a rabbit hole forming my own conclusions. Best of luck.
