Working from home

Any inspiration for working from home jobs? I definitely can’t return to my previous role, but have never worked from home before and no idea how it would even work with a baby! Any advice please let me know x

A lot of companies won't allow you to WFH, at least in the UK, with a child. I've done it a few times due to illness etc and it's hard work because you can't concentrate on one or the other enough so definitely wouldn't recommend it long term

Same what @Kirsty said. You need childcare arranged regardless. Wfh is not a replacement for childcare. As for wfh jobs, I would start with what you actually want to be doing and what existing skills you can re-purpose in your new career.

I work from home but most of time I am in meetings or calls so it’s impossible to work whilst looking after a baby, the companies wouldn’t allow it anyway

I work from home, but I always had full day childcare arrangements. Childcare is a full time job. Also some companies may ask for you to provide proof you have childcare arrangement. ( e.gchildcare invoice etc)

😔 thank you for the replies, I appreciate the advice. This is the issue I’m going to have, I don’t really have childcare options hence why I need to work from home. I won’t be able to afford nursery fees either so no idea what I’m going to do

There is a lot of support you can get to help with paying for childcare - there’s tax free childcare and 15 free hours once they’re 9 months old, plus you may be eligible for more if you are eligible for Universal Credit. Alternatively you may find that you’re better off claiming Universal Credit instead of working for a while.

Would freelancing be an option for you? I work part time as a freelancer and I work whatever hours suit me so I work when my toddler is sleeping, or if my partner is home, could that be an option?

@Emma this isn’t something I’ve even thought of and I’m not entirely sure how I’d get into this, but definitely something I’ll look into! Thank you so much x
