When did (or are you) planning to have a second child?

My partner seems to get into the heat of the moment and wants to try for a second kid and I’m not so sure about it. We have a 6 month old girl and he already wants to try for another (a boy specifically).

We’re not planning to have another at all but I was told by the doctors and midwives that it’s a good idea to leave trying for another until a year post partum to give your body time to heal up a bit before going again.

@Emma the wait a year thing is what I was also told and came across during research before having our first. I definitely want to have the time to heal up but we also want to have our kids kinda quickly generally because my partner is much older so we want him to be able to still run around and keep up with the kids when they’re preteens and teens/young adults.

Im 11 months PP and I’m Due early May

I dont want another for like 2 years (10weeks pp)

My partner and I discussed it, and even though the one year wait time is recommended, we do want our kids to be closer in age and will be trying for a second around 9mpp so that they're about a year and a half apart in age.

@Bella did you start ovulating before you got a period again? I still haven’t gotten mine back and have PCOS so I’m wondering if I’ll even be able to try before having a period

So what happened with me is a little wild. I got my period back 5 months PP, got a positive test the day my son turned 6 months, miscarried a week later, had two periods and then found out I was pregnant again a few days before my son turned 10 months. You can absolutely ovulate without a period, but it’s hard to know without a period or regular testing. Neither of us wanted another so soon, but I ovulated late and didn’t know… shit happened I have accepted my fate tbh. My son will be 18mo when this one is born. Give or take of course 😂

So my husband is 9 years older than me so we were initially going to try pretty close together. But I had a really tough time pp and still am. And now want to spend time with my little guy. So as of right now we’re going to wait until next fall to try again. For reference my little guy is 8 months next week

@Bella I usually test for ovulation prior to sex but haven’t lately because of ✨ laziness ✨ 🫣😂 I hadn’t successfully ovulated until we got pregnant with my girl for probably years. Either that or I just had bad timing or my body is weird but either way it worked out eventually. I’m just wondering if I’ve been ovulating and haven’t caught the window because of not regularly testing before it happens and if it’s even possible with PCOS at 6 months PP

@Brittany mines 20 years older👀 we want to try as soon as we are in a better position to have another kid but that could be awhile or it could be relatively soon. Pregnancy was thankfully unremarkable outside of extreme stress and a fall two weeks before I gave birth. PP however has been horrendous for me mentally and only got worse as things went on so I don’t want to experience that anytime soon again either. I’d just rather not give birth to kids when I’m past 35 or so which leaves me with just over 11 years to go

Girl that’s a mood. Laziness is legit.. I found I ovulate super early into my cycle I’m talking a few days after my period ends ✨usually✨ obviously not this time around 😭😂 You could try testing earlier..? Sending love your way mama! 🫶🏻 If you need someone to talk to my messages are open! Pp is mentally draining 🥲

Good luck!! My father wanted to try for a boy, and I'm one of 4 girls lol. 😅

Not planning for another, one and done 🤣 you should wait at least a year before trying again, 18 months I'd you had a CS

Slightly different experience but I’m 35 and plan to try for my second child 5-6 months post partum….I got pregnant after 2 miscarriages (first at 10 weeks and second at 5) I ovulated right after my 5 week miscarriage so before my period and it was against the advice of 2/4 providers….basically I learned that everyone has their own “opinion” on when to start trying again after miscarriage or pregnancy….I’ve always wanted 3 children and because of my age and history it will likely be a rough journey getting there…go with how YOU feel mentally and physically. I truly believe that as women, our bodies know best.

I want another baby ASAP as I’m not getting any younger. My husband wants to wait until at least a year. Probably a more sensible idea 😅🤣

Very similar situation with me! My partner is 15 yrs older than me and we would like to have at least one more child together but up to 4 😁😆 he has a 10yo and 7yo. We’re basically going with the flow. Both our human designs and bodies seem to want to procreate. I got my period back 5 weeks postpartum and I’m exclusively breastfeeding 😂 honestly 6mo doesn’t seem too soon to start again if you feel up for it! But yes physiologically it takes 3 years for your body to fully recover and restore itself postpartum. We’ll probs have our next one sooner than a year but subsequent babies, if any, farther apart like a year or two
