Anti depressants?

How did you all know you needed to go on anti depressants? I know this sounds stupid but I feel like I just get on with things generally and don’t feel the need to have medical intervention. The past few weeks I feel like everything is getting on top of me, I don’t know if now is the right time for me to start some? How do they make you feel personally? Thanks!

personally i went on them because i needed the help, and they did help me start getting back on top of things until i went through a miscarriage. i came off of them for a month and went back onto them and they just weren't working how they used to. it really is different for everyone x

I am personally not on anti depressants but work in the mental health feild. I like to go over the following questions with a client when they are considering medication. Are the symptoms begining to interfere with your day to day life? Have you tried other lifestyle changes first? (diet, exercise, more outdoors time etc). Have you taken a break from alcohol and any other depressants? Like the above comment, it's different for everyone. If you feel you are ready, definitely take your time researching and discussing options with a psychiatrist. The meds build up over time so it's important to be consistent.
