Hey mamas! I am going to be a first time mom and I don’t have a support system so I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for doulas in the Raleigh area. also, does anyone know if this is possibly covered by insurance?

Girl I went thru the same thing and first thing you need to do is go to the social services office and apply for Medicaid. You and the baby will be taken care of and it’ll cover everything until the babies born then only the babies covered and you have to pay a co-pay. Also why you’re there apply for food stamps because now that you have a baby on the way they will give you food stamps even after your child is born. They also have another program called WIC and while you’re pregnant, they will help you with anything you need. WIC also helps with formula sometimes and some groceries. If you need more help or info just message me and I can help you to the best of my knowledge. I’m a single mother raising a 1 1/2 yr old, the father walked out on me the day I told him I was pregnant, so trust me I get it when you say you have no support system. I’m still going through it. Either way I’m here if you need anything even with baby stuff /clothes. Stay blessed🙏💯🫶💜

I went through Black Doulas for Black Moms and got two doulas, they were both soooo amazing and it’s free for black women in the triangle area. They also keep in touch and I send them milestone updates from my son.

Hey mama! Check black doulas for black mamas! I gave birth at UNC!

Mine was 100% covered by insurance and my doula was amazing! She went over & beyond to get to know me & my family before my baby was born

Thank you guys so much!!

@Taylor so happy to hear this, and I’m glad you had a great experience! I hope my insurance does as well

@Shai that’s so beautiful! I hope I find the right one as well since I don’t really have a support system

It’s not a bad idea to apply for Medicaid while you’re pregnant! You can use your regular insurance as a secondary and Medicaid as a primary just until you give birth as well!

You could also look into Want To Be Well, Hibiscus Healing, My Dear Doula. They’re local Black doulas who are absolutely phenomenal. There’s also Triangle Doulas of Color if you’re looking for an agency. I’m not sure if they take insurance but I believe they have a sliding scale/payment plans. Lastly look into Equity Before Birth. They find perinatal services for Black moms and babies.
