Tips for flying with baby

We have booked flights to visit family when the LO will be 6 months old and my brain is already overthinking everything! Any tips/advice? Things to pack?

I’m going away soon and I brought a travel stroller that is much smaller, called a zummi, calpol sachets, Milton wipes snot sucker etc Never travelled with a baby before so will be interested also what other people put!

Yet to travel with my LO, but I do think about baby ear plugs. I know when I fly my ears tends to get blocked and uncomfortable, can only imagine how they’ll react to it.☺️

@Abiola yes this worries me, as I myself cannot bear it! what I have read is to either use a pacifier or feed them for take off and landing. I also have a pair of baby ear defenders that go over the ears to hopefully help 🤞🏼

We traveled to see my parents abroad when my LO was 8 weeks old! I bought a baby carrier and borrowed an all in one compact stroller to save space & as it is much lighter. The walk to pick up the pram the other side was much longer so the carrier came in handy to free up my hands. They recommend to feed baby on take off and landing if possible as the sucking helps with adjusting their ears as the cabin pressure changes (dummy may also work). I was supper worried about lots beforehand but people were kind and understanding when he cried and he slept most of the flight both ways as the motion kind of rocks them! I'd say at 6 months take a few things to entertain them like toys and books & depending on flight length I'd change nappy before and after as trying to do it in the airplane toilet was a mission 🤣 we will be flying again for a visit at new years & LO will be nearly 6 months so I'll be in the same boat again 😅x

@Corin Thank you so much for the advice! I babywear most of the time, so I’m hoping we will still be doing it at 6 months to make things easier! Also 6 months is around the introducing solids mark 🙈 are you planning trying to get on with that during the trip or delaying? Of course it highly depends if the LO is ready and hard to say from now but gosh that’s a while other level of planning 😂

@Rebecca my LO has a cows milk allergy & is high on percentiles & is showing signs of weening already at 12 weeks, so health visitor has said we can wean from 5 months probably. I will likely bring snacks that he has tried and not reacted to and not introduce anything while we are away but main source of nutrition is still the milk so I won't worry if he doesn't eat during travelling. Planning on baby led weaning and to just let him explore so 🤞
