Weaning

I’ve recently started weaning with my 6 month old, we are trialing a mixture of BLW (finger foods) alongside purées. Initially she seemed interested and actually enjoyed some of the foods but in the last few days she seems really disinterested/annoyed about the whole process, throws herself back in the high chair, doesn’t want to hold the food etc. I’m trying to follow her lead and if she doesn’t want to try it then I won’t force her but I am worried that she just isn’t overly keen on food at the moment. I gave her some cauliflower purée today and before I had a chance to put it to her mouth she was arching her back to get out of the high chair. Should I be worried, is this normal? How long did it take other babies to get to grips with weaning and seem to like it? Thanks!

We had this, just have to persevere each day and they'll pick it up eventually. It could also be a sign that they're too hungry to faff with solids or not hungry enough to want to try it. Maybe try offering at a different time of day and see if that helps? For some, stopping to have solids halfway through a bottle works, for us first soilds were best offered 30 to 45 mins after her lunch time bottle. Hope this helps! X

I may misunderstand what you’re saying. Are you just starting BLW or are you weaning them off of breast milk/formula while doing BLW. We started the same BLW and purees about 2 weeks ago and each day is different. Some days she is very interested, others she doesn’t put much of the food in her mouth and just plays with it but that’s normal! From everything I’ve read don’t wean breast milk/formula until approximately 9 months when they start actually taking in calories. It’s also very normal for babies to be interested some days and not others. I would strongly recommend following Solid Starts on Instagram and downloading their free app. Even with purées I’m not feeding my daughter. I put some on the end of the spoon and just hold it out for her to grab and she brings it to her mouth/face. The first few days she didn’t really do that and now she’s doing so much better. It takes time!

@Michelle weaning in the UK is just adding solid foods wether that be puree or BLW. Not off of formula or breast milk.
