BLW and fussy eating

Hello mamas, Baby is almost 6months old and we have tried to start purées (preloaded spoon) and finger foods with him but even though he shows all the signs of redness (good neck support, sitting with Assitance, swiping at food we eat) he still doesn’t want to eat when I try and give him foods. He will fuss and fuss and try to arch out of the chair. I’ve been trying different foods and textures but he doesn’t feel like eating. He’ll pick up finger foods and try and eat but will throw out most of it cuz he isn’t able to swallow just yet. I’ve tried before a feed, after a feed but to no avail. Any tips on how I can get him eating or at least interested in eating?

I’d personally stop and then try again in a few weeks. BLW worked for us as she’s an independent baby and preferred to self feed. The app “solid starts” is good, as it tells u how to prepare the food to minimise the risk of choking. I’d start with a vegetable, maybe steamed broccoli and then move on etc. With allergens, introduce 3x within the week. A reaction normally takes place within 20 minutes to 2 hours.

My babe also seems to want to do everything on his own in the sense that he doesn’t like me shoving the food in his mouth and personally I don’t force him either but he’s not doing well either purées so maybe just starting with finger foods might do the trick.

Do you do one new food each day or do you follow the three day rule for each new food?

@Sayali I only do the 3x if it’s an allergen, wheat, dairy, fish, eggs etc. Other than that I’d try different foods daily. I would download solid starts, as it will tell u how to prepare each food! It’s really good

Thank you! I have the solid starts app and it’s a great resource. I think tho stoping and waiting for a few weeks may do the trick? I’ll try that

He’s not even 6 months yet, I definitely wouldn’t start worrying about him being a fussy eater! Stop for a couple of weeks and try again, start with carrots or sweet potato or even just full fat Greek yogurt if he doesn’t want it don’t force it, if he’s arching back to be out the chair take him out and try again in half an hour…you don’t want him to have negative associations and the more frustrated you get the less likely he will be to eat x
