Not much appetite

My 17 weeks old baby has never been the best eater. He used to have 150ml x5-6 times a day but lately he is been having a hard time finishing his bottle and just having 120-140ml every 4-5 hours. He sleeps through the night The paediatrician is not concerned about his weight but I’m a little anxious about it so he suggested we started with solids Someone else in this situation? Did your baby appetite improved with solids? Gained weight faster?

is he on formula or breastmilk? I wouldn’t stress. He’ll gain weight without solids

@Bianca he is combi fed 60% expressed breast milk 40% formula but I’ve been slowly increasing the amount of formula as i don’t want to keep expressing/breastfeeding anymore

Oh okay! I only ask because breastfed baby’s typically only have 120-150mL per bottle My baby has 150mL bottles breastmilk but his formula bottles are like 240mL but only before bed Sometimes he doesn’t even finish those He’s currently 6 months old but we started solid foods at the age your bub is now. My bub hasn’t increased amount of milk & sometimes has one bottle less than usual But also has had one meal every few days until he was 5 months and we only just jumped it up to 2 meals. There will be people that tell you not to do solid food before 6 months but It is entirely up to you. As long as your baby is gaining weight and not dropping percentiles, I wouldn’t be worried. As for the solid side of it - I didn’t notice any increase in appetite for mine & he also didn’t have a huge gain in weight but is still staying on his percentile

It could also be a teat flow problem. Maybe the teat is just a little slow for him. You could try him on a higher flow teat and see how he goes? Otherwise, he could be coming out of a growth spurt or even teething lol. There were times my baby was having 200mL and then dropping right down to 120mL and it made me panic

@Bianca thanks hun I’m panicking a little as a ftm so thank you so much for your reassurance xx

Oh my gosh me too. I swear the amount of posts I made about my baby when he was younger. i was way over the top haha All baby’s are different so Id consult someone else if you’re genuinely worried but what I said is exactly what worked and happened to my baby xx
