Birthday dinners and parents

So my birthday is next month and my dad is so dead set on taking myself and my daughter out to dinner for my birthday. Am I a bad person for just not wanting to go? I love them but I just don’t wanna celebrate with my parents.

Not a bad person.

No it's YOUR day! Tell him you already have plans and that maybe you can schedule time together on a different day (if you'd want)

Your not a bad person, but it does make me sad as a mom. Your dad just wants to celebrate you. Even though it’s your birthday - your birthday is a day that is reflect on by your parents of the day you were brought into the world and all the feelings and experience that they felt and have shaped who they are today. Much like you felt with your daughter. I don’t think your bad for not wanting to go but it makes my heart melt that your dad just wants to spend time with you 🤍

It's really sweet that your dad wants to take you and your daughter out for dinner, however ultimately it's your decision on how you want to spend your birthday as its your day. If you don't want to spend your actual birthday with them can you suggest a day before or after?

@Sarah it’s not that I don’t love them I do I just really would rather just sit at home and hang out with my daughter. I just don’t even like celebrating my birthday. Never really have been.

Can he take you out on a different day to celebrate?

@Ari I just don’t want to celebrate in general.
