Pain killers / dihydrocodeine

Does dihydrocodeine have the same effect on the baby in the womb as it does on us? FYI I’m on these for PGP pain and I’m 24 weeks pregnant. I only take one on a night and use paracetamol through the day as the dihydrocodeine make me drowsy/lightheaded/sleepy etc… I’m wondering if it does the same to my baby?

Yes it passes through the placenta and it's one of those where doctors have to weigh up the benefits. This should have been explained to you when it was prescribed x

I got prescribed it for rib pain and the doctor said to just not take it too often and only when it’s really bad. It becomes more of an issue in the third trimester closer to birth because the baby could experience withdrawal
