Tablet and screen time

So my partner sent me a photo of a tablet that he is thinking of getting my little girl for Christmas but I’m just not sure about it. I’m worried she will become glued to it in some way or addicted😂 we do allow her screen time throughout the day and don’t necessarily limit it as I like to have the tv on for background noise but she isn’t really a child to be glued to it - we will play or do other activities while it is on and she normally watches educational shows like miss Rachel. I’ve read some research on how screen time can affect children e.g. limited social skills etc which she has no lack of - we are always told how social and friendly she is, sometimes too friendly with both adults and kids. My question is really is 18 months really too young for her to have a tablet to watch her shows on?

My daughter has a tablet, my mum got it for me for Christmas and we both use it. She's rarely on it and played with her toys (or annoys me) instead. I think she also just doesn't care because I also like having shows on in the background

If you have the TV on during the day etc, when are you both expecting her to use the tablet? I play stuff for my son on my tablet but he literally only uses it when we are on a long car journey (like over 2 hours) and he has had enough. So my question would be more about when will they use it? A tablet is more tailored to individual use whereas a TV is more communal, so you may find she watches a tablet more intently than the TV.

Possibly when I am trying to get chores done at home as she is like my little koala and wants to be picked up a lot. It could possibly act as a distraction for her while I try and get things done, I’m not sure if that sounds bad. She doesn’t always pay too much attention to the tv and like what you said - in the car. She never has screen time while out for dinner or while out with friends or family etc. That is definitely something to consider though about how much she would actually use it and whether it would be worth it

@Julie my daughter is the exact same and I'm telling you the tablet does not stop her bothering me while I'm trying to do anything 😂

@Alisha oh god 🤦🏼‍♀️ she wasn’t too bad before but she seems to have got super clingy recently! It’s so hard to do anything 😂

@Julie yes, my daughter has to be right up on me. I'll lie on my bed and she has do many toys on the floor but she has to be on the bed with me

We got educational games about colours and alphabet it's good for keeping them entertained when your out and you limit it. My 5 year old has an iPad and a switch hes limited. He loves his switch but yesterday chose to make a map so say drawing a spongebob map and loves outdoors x

My LO has had one since 11 months. Purely for on the plane when we went away. We just bought a kid proof case for my tablet. He only uses it for long car journeys and planes. We never give it to him in the house as he just uses to watch what’s already on the tv anyway. In the car we take it but we wait till he gets really fussy before we give it to him. Honestly they don’t use it much at all. We spend more time putting his show back on for him because he just likes to swipe everything on it
