Thoughts about birth control?

I know it’s early to be thinking about this however I’m pretty certain I don’t want to go on birth control again as it does not affect my mental/physical health very well. I just don’t believe in messing with my hormones. Has anyone had any success with preventing pregnancy naturally? Keeping track of your cycles or testing for ovulation? I’ll be breastfeeding so I’m aware my cycles will be all over the place and ovulation with be random.

Pull and pray? 😂

@Emma this is the reason we are pregnant with #2 😂

I practice fertility awareness and use natural cycles as a way to track. I didn't get on with orally taking my temp every morning so use a tempdrop wearable armband instead. I believe they're now expanded compatible devices to include Apple watch and oura ring as well so something to check as to what works best for you. You will definitely need some form of barrier method until your cycle returns otherwise you could get 'unlucky' and conceive in your first fertile month before your period starts. I've found natural cycles really accurate though so long as you use it correctly - it's only as good as the info you provide so you need to be consistent.

You could perhaps think about the coil if you wanted a bit more assurance than tracking? You can get non hormonal and it's v effective

I was concerned about hormonal contraception after my first and got a non-hormonal coil so that could be an option. Otherwise I would go with a barrier method as cycle tracking/ovulation testing won't be completely reliable.

I honestly don’t know what to do coz I absolutely hate the coil and also hormonal types Im asking my husband to get the snip but he wants a third (lol I’m not too sure about that) And I honestly need a rest from being pregnant and breastfeeding for a bit

All depends on multiple factors. I am very against hormonal things and medication due to personal, health and faith reasons ❤️ Hubs and I been practising "pull out" plus me being awared of my ovulation for 8 yrs or have full on experience when I'm certain there is no chance of getting pregnant as I know my body, never had any accidents, never got pregnant. 1 time when we had sex close to ovulation and he didn't pull out I got pregnant 🤗🤗 (as planned) so this works brilliantly for us. But depends on each man too. Got friends whose partners aren't able to hold it or even recognize when close to the end 😬🤯 So this works for us but might not work for you. I don't believe what is said by medical pros that it isn't reliable. It 100% is IF you know your body and ovulation..We don't normally have any sex close to ovulation so no worries about unwanted pregnancy. After I give birth, we will obviously restrain for a while until my body heals and then be super careful and defo always pull out as no ovulation/period

I’m having my tubes tied during my elective c-section as I haven’t used hormonal contraceptives for years and know I’ll keep forgetting to take them, the coil freaks me out and I had continuous bleeding on the implant previously. I asked husband if he would get the snip and was met with an absolutely not so snip snip it is for me then!

@April my fiancé has definitely said he’d get the snip eventually! However we want to have more kids like 5 years down the line so need a temp fix for now

@Gabi how were you aware of ovulation? Did you use bodily symptoms (discharge/temp/cramping) or did you test for ovulation? My fiancé is fine for pull out but to be certain I’d like to know when I’m ovulating too

@Natalya yes 100% my fiancé has said he will get the snip but we aren’t done having babies yet!

@Candice just don’t enjoy the idea of having foreign objects in my body unfortunately 🩷

@Gabi depends if you have a regular cycle though. If you do I think it can work as you know what week not to have sex but I have pcos with cycles of 35-50 days so that'd be about 3 weeks a cycle of no sex 😂

I didn't use hormonal contraception before getting pregnant as I hate its effects on my body. We had no accidents, good old fashioned condoms and pull out method if your man can 200% hold it in. Seems we were pretty good at preventing it because it only took one time to get pregnant when we decided to start a family

@Tanya Sorry about pcos 😔 I got/had endometriosis so the opposite of scale. For me cycles are pretty regular and just cannot mistake the signs of which phase I am at.

Incognito: With endometriosis it is impossible to miss ovulation as it's horrendous pain, close to period pain. Just brutal ovarian cramps on the side where the egg is released and pre ovulation loads of other symptoms. And yes vaginal discharge always changes throughout the cycle plus droplets of blood so there are many signs. But I understand it can be hard for many women to recognize. I am a cycle nerd and now birth nerd so I am pretty synced with my body 🤗 I suppose ovulation tests work well though.
