Weaning issues

Anyone else baby struggling with anything more than smooth purée? My first I did a mix of purées and BLW and she was great with everything- obviously would gag if something too big to swallow etc but otherwise had no issues My boy this time cannot deal with anything that isn’t completely smooth and I don’t know what to do - this morning he choked on mushed up weetabix and threw up 😔 Tried readybrek style porridge and that seems to be too chunky for him … he can have thick smooth purees but if there is anything like bits in it then he gags Anyone else struggling? Don’t know how to progress

Mine has since yesterday managed foods with bits in . He was gagging and being sick too even on the crumbs of a rusk!! I have been making my own but to be honest I’m so desperate for him to manage something that got a pouch it had small bits in and to my surprise he managed it. He often gags on homemade mash etc too. I think the best thing to do is just keep offering. I was trying to stay clear of puree and wanting to progress him but I did just puree for one day because I know he likes it and I don’t want food to be an issue. I’m going to keep switching back and forth , idk if it’s the right thing to do but I want him to enjoy foods too even if that means alternating until he can manage xx

I tried some BLW and my girl was having none of it she wasn’t interested in anything solid at all and just spat it out but then tried some of the melting sticks and she enjoyed those and is now more willing to try and chew (gum) on more solid foods but does gag on anything too solid but I just keep trying. Think it just takes time to get used to the new textures so just keep trying gradually

Glad it’s not just me and great to hear yours has got better! I will keep trying him and hopefully he will get there soon! Xx

He may just not be ready yet. My firstborn did great with BLW, we started at 6 months on the dot and never looked back. The only purées she had after 6 months were the pouches on the go because she enjoyed them. I have boy girl twins now, they were born 4 weeks early so I waited until they were 6.5 months to start BLW, we had dabbled in purées from month 5 on. My girl caught on and does amazing, my son sounds a lot like yours. I just don’t think he’s ready. He will do teething snacks, I’m not sure what options you have if you’re in the UK but in the US there are quite a few options with the consistency of a Cheeto puff and he enjoys those but not much else when it comes to solids. I’ve heard girls progress faster than boys, and it’s definitely been true with my twins. My younger daughter reminds me so much of my oldest with milestones and baby boy is just taking his time. 🥰 I plan to give BLW a try every couple of weeks with him until he decides he’s ready, purées until then.
