Weaning

How is it all going? My 7 month old seems to dislike all veggies, managed to get her to eat sweet potato a week ago and now she is refusing that as well. She also refuses carrots, courgette, avocado, peas, green beans, sweet corn, broccoli, cauliflower 😂 Loves fruit, yoghurt and porridge though. Do I still give fruit after the veg that she refuses or just keep offering veg without the fruit after, I’m slightly confused and wondered what everyone else was doing.

I keep offering it to my little one, everything is on the plate together and it’s there for her grab (this example is with broccoli florets) Mines different in that she will keep trying it, but put it to her mouth and throw it down. Then repeat. I just keep offering in between mouthfuls of other things and she’s still trying even though she doesn’t seem a fan of it. Hope that’s helpful. I’ve gone down the route of having all food options available throughout dinner which should be more useful when she’s able to feed herself to take away the focus of a sweet dessert.

Oh that’s a good idea, do you have a mix of purées and BLW. I’ve tried this, but do find it hard to get the finger foods ready in line with her waking up.

I usually do porridge with a splash of fruit puree pouch or a weetabix for breakfast then when I’m eating mine I’ll put pieces of omelette, avocado or crumpet for her to grab on. Then lunch will be a jar followed by maybe some smushed raspberries or banana sticks. Dinner I’ll do pasta and use a veggie pouch as a sauce and leave her to try eat it herself but offer spoons of a puree in between. I’ll eventually start to phase out the spoon feeding and up the BLW as she takes to it. This is how I weaned my 13 year old and she will eat any and everything. My two boys (4 and 2 years old) I was too scared to let them be as messy as they needed in order to fully do BLW and would only give them ‘clean’ bits of food to feed themselves such as a toast stick. They are now the most pickiest eaters - will literally just eat some fruit, sweetcorn and all the fish fingers, chicken dippers and potato waffles there are 😒

That’s really helpful, thank you! I like the use of a pouch used as a pasta sauce. I think I need to give more variety on her plate and see what she chooses.

What I did today was have two plates - one meal he refused (soup) and one that he liked (avocado). So I’d give him three spoons avocado, and while he was keen I’d sneak in soup. Managed to sneak in three spoonfuls. Keep trying. Until you offered it ten times don’t give up!

@Chloe Hill I remember when my first born was weaning I used to buy baby pasta sauce jars and stock but I’ve spent the past week searching for them and can’t find them anymore. Think they were Heinz…..so that’s why I started using veggie pouches as a sauce x

@Chloe Hill yes doing a mix! Some days completely purée with some things for her to grab other days more texture. Just depends what we’re eating and what we’ve got for her. X

We followed Charlotte sterling-Reid’s How to Wean Your Baby. She gives a different single veg on days 1–10, then a mixture of 2, then a few more and so on. Our little boy will now eat anything and everything! Tonight he had chicken, avocado, quinoa and peanut butter as a mash then some slices of chicken and avo to pick up and eat himself. Highly recommend trying the book, it’s made our weaning journey a dream xx

Give her veg while feeding her a yoghurt so the tastes blend together. Butternut squash and parsnips are quite sweet so can blend them in with others might help x

@Georgia oh fab, I’ve ordered it, so I’ll give it a try. Thank you! X

My little boy can be fussy but loves his brocolli and carrots! Hates strawberries! Like everyone said try mixing them with stuff she likes! I’ve also heard it can take up to 10 tries to know if they definitely like something or not! 🤯😂 x

Maybe try pures mixed with fruit then? My girls loves peas with pear and beef , or chicken apple and sweet potato..

@Agne I tried this today, pear with avocado and she was much more happy to take it. Thank you!
