Diabetes after

Have gestational diabetes. I know it goes away after birth but I also know there’s a higher chance of developing diabetes not too much later on. I’m scared to go back to eating regularly after birth for fear I’ll just go into type 2 diabetes. But I also would love to have pizza, bread and pasta again as it’s been 4 months since I have eaten anything I have enjoyed. Does anyone have any experience with going back to eating regularly and then immediately developing diabetes?

I went back to my normal eating (soccer it wasn't too bad before hand) or as normal of eating as one does with a toddler. No diabetes here. Best guidance is to try and get down to pre -pregnancy weight in 6 months and then maintain a healthy weight and test every 1-3 years at your annual appointment. Also, making healthy food choices. But you don't have to be on a diabetic restrictive diet unless your follow up blood tests are concerning.

I've had 3 pregnancies in 2.5 years all 3 have been gdm. After each my bloods showed I didn't have diabetes.. but now 13 weeks after having my 3rd I'm now pre diabetic, even tho I havent been eating terribly

@Miriam I have only gained about 8 lbs this entire pregnancy (now almost 34 weeks) and the baby himself is over 5 of them. So I think I can get down to pre pregnancy weight. It’s just pre pregnancy I was heavier so I guess I just have to lose weight anyway
