Biting when feeding!

Does anyone have an issue of little one biting when feeding? My daughter is 4months and has 2 bottom teeth. Recently she's biting when feeding...I don't want to stop feeding but genuinely not sure how much more I can take. The pain is horrendous! Has anyone dropped feeds and purely just done night feeds? She seems fine at night buy its during the day where we have the problem. Luckily she takes a bottle of formula 2 times a day already as I don't have time to replace any feeds with pumping due to having too much of a busy lifestyle at home with other children.

Yessss the worst!!!!! I’m so sorry! Please don’t let this deter you from breastfeeding though! They say “feed the bite” it sounds bad but basically jam baby into the breast when they bite. It totally works and they stop at that time and also get the message not to bite you. It’s a stage she will overcome it! Don’t beat yourself up about your reactions either i once screamed at my baby and made him cry. I felt so horrible but in hindsight it’s incredibly painful and it’s ok to be shocked.

I stopped with my first st 4 months bc she had a tooth and bit me. I was young and didn't have support. I need to learn how to keep going so I don't need to stop with this next one

I know it sounds harsh but all the older ladies in my life tell me to smash babies face against your breast it’ll make them Pull back and won’t do it again… also tell them NO in a stern tone. My son has two teeth coming in. He is7mo and I’m hoping we can make it to 12 months

My boy is 7 months and I’ve dropped my breast feeds massively and just pump mainly now because he was biting and it hurt so bad. He has two bottom teeth so yes totally get it

Some may not agree with me, but when they do that, you scream really loud to let them know it hurts. They get scared and realize it is not funny. I did it with my first, and it worked like a charm.

My son is 2 now with a full set of teeth and I still breastfeed. He started biting me with just gums and that was super painful. I would abstain from breastfeeding for a bit every time he bit me and tell him “No, you don’t bite me” and keep my distance from him. He would cry and it was heartbreaking but he needed to learn. You could also buy a nipple guard and see if it helps

That's awesome that you still can, good for you @ astriz

Thanks ladies, it's so painful and I have gasped and said ouch loudly a few times. I swear it's worse pain than the first week of latching 🤣 hopefully she stops soon and we find a way around it. It's just really starting to change my feelings around feeding her at times unfortunately 😕 x

@Astriz that's fab x

I had this with my baby boy for a few weeks and it wasn't pleasant but like all phases it passed and I'm glad I'm still breast feeding. He saw it as a game. I had bad bite and infection in breast that was worst.

She stopped for a bit but is getting worse again. It's so painful 😒
