Had my first diabetes appointment

Seen the dietician been advised to limit my potions and go for foods like seeded brown bread etc they checked my blood sugars and it was 4.6 ..... I was open and honest and told them what I eat but I need to be careful because they said it can cause problems for baby like baby's head can deliver and the shoulders then get stuck or I could end up having tares which would need surgery or loosing blood.... my doctor showed me the growth scan and baby is big than usual I don't think I can give birth naturally ita going to scare me 😟

Hi, have the same problem. Had my blood sugar test 2x as baby is measuring on the bigger side. Saw the diabetes team last week again since I had sugar in my urine test last antenatal appointment. Now having to check my blood sugars 4x a day which are normal aside from a couple of readings. Had to change my diet to wholegrains, low carbs and low sugar. So far, blood sugars been normal. Just waiting for the diabetes team to re-assess me again tomorrow. Also feeling scared about going on natural birth since I am only 4ft 11in and baby's head and abdomen are on the bigger size. Hopefully, everything will be fine.

4.6 is a low reading. what have they said you need to keep it below? i haven’t changed my diet, e.g was eating brown bread etc before and have found i haven’t gone over my targets. don’t feel you need to completely overhaul your diet, make small changes and see if you need to limit portions after etc, it’s not good for baby for you to be under-eating either

i was diagnosed with gestational diabetes 2 weeks ago too, but so far my readings have fine. Have to be under 7.8 and they’re always between 5-6 and i’ve only changed my diet to whole grains and cut out eating so much sugary food (i was craving magic stars before and must have eaten a bag a night lol!).

@Kate when I saw the doctor at my appointment on the 23rd September she said she will book me in for Induction for the 3rd October due to diabetes.... when I went to my diabetes appointment I saw the diabetes midwife and she said its gestational diabetes but if it's not managed properly it can go onto type 2 diabetes x

@Linda i’ve seen a few people that have to do it 2 hours after meals but mine is 1 hour after ?! not sure on the difference. i was told the other day that if baby goes over a certain weight by my next scan in 2 weeks i’ll get induced xx
