Engaged

My midwife just told me in 3/5 engaged. But I really don't understand it. I'm getting pressure really low down and in a bit of pain. Is this a good sign? Or is 3/5 normal? I'm 36+4

Yes you are about halfway but some midwives go in the opposite direction where 0/5 is free and 5/5 is completely engaged (that is how mine does it). So either you are just starting to engage or you are about half engaged.

Your baby will bob in and out of being engaged at this stage. You might be finding that baby drops lower when you're upright, but when you lie down baby comes out of your pelvis At some point your baby will drop into your pelvis and not come back out, at that point they'll be properly engaged

I had my midwife appt yesterday, and I'm 36 weeks + 2 days, and I'm 3/5s engaged too. Midwife said it doesn't mean labour is soon, just that baby is heading in the right direction, but can still decide to bob back up xx

To me, she explained it this way: she considers how much of the head she can feel outside the pelvis, so 3/5 means she can feel 3/5 of the head still out and it's properly engaged, as 2/5 and 1/5 means it's basically coming out 😅

It is PUZZLING indeed. I asked about the upper picture my midwife today and she said weirdly each midwife does it differently 🤯🤯 I sadly already forgot which way she does it 🤣🤣🤣👀 But it started 1/5, 2 weeks ago she said 2/5 and today 3/5 and she said baby's more deeply in the pelvis. I read that being 4/5 and fully - 5/5 engaged usually only happens during labour or when labour is imminent so hope that's the case as I barely walk with the PGP.
