FTM baby due to go to nursery in Jan

After waiting 12 years for my miracle baby I am so not ok with her going to nursery in Jan and being away from her for 8-9 hours a day. Is anyone else struggling with this? Work rejected my flexible working request so I am now having to work 3 full days and 2 half days so basically a full week almost. I really don’t want to be apart from her for so long. I know she will love nursery, make friends and learn so much but selfishly I am struggling with the idea of it. Is anyone else feeling the same? Any stories of how to cope or experiences? She will be 11 months old when she starts nursery in January. Many thanks in advance x

I was in the same position. But we juggled our finances and decided I could reduce my hours in work and only go back on a part time basis (2 days a week and mine or his family will look after her which also saves on nursery costs too!) maybe this would be an option depending on your financial situation ….Also if work rejects your request they should provide you with a compromise or alternative options.

Is it an option to look for a new job which is more flexible?

@Naomi the compromise was 3 full days and 2 half days. Opposed to 5 full days

I know it's easier said than done, but have you thought about looking for a new job and seeing if you can some financial support until you find something?

@Charly I’ve been looking for ages no one replies or I get rejected for being over qualified for anything part time. It’s so hard this should be the best time of my life

@Dominique I had the same unfortunately and ended up quitting my job. Luckily My hb could support us a bit and we got some additional financial support, the right one will just come along at some point. You can always appeal your Flexible working request decision. I don't think them saying still 5 days a week but 2 half days is an adequate compromise and I work in HR.

I don’t have any advice but just came to say I am the same, I personally don’t want to be away from my lo more than a few hours

What’s your job? I only ask as a lot has come out recently about workplaces supporting mothers back into work and unless they have a very good reason to say no (like it would have a serious detrimental affect on the business) I’m lead to believe from what I’ve read it’s hard for them to say no. I’ve dropped two days at work and my manager and HR advisor both said they were in a position to support my return in any way possible. I’m sorry you’re in this position, was there any consultation period?

Yes I am the same. I still don’t know what we are going to do. I hear too many things. Also worked in nursery’s and I’m just not comfortable 😢😢
