Cash help; Calworks

Anyone know how much you have to make to still be able to get calworks? We are a family of 4. My husband is the only one working because I don’t have a work permit (I wasn’t born here) and we have 2 kids. He has been very depressed lately because bills are high and he is barely able to keep up and I’m wondering if we can get some cash help while he still works until I can get my work permit which can take up to 7 months according to immigration.

Calworks is hard to get into if your married. Calfresh maybe.

@Neveah oh okay ty is that for food?

Yes it is food but it might help you save a couple of bucks a month

Since you can’t work because of a work permit they will probably give it to you until, You get it. You’ll probably have to apply as a family since you’re husband is working they’ll need to go off his income. If you have smaller kids 5 and under you can get WIC

@Neveah true

You can definitely apply for CalFresh, you wouldn’t count as a recipient only your kids and any adult who meets the criteria. If you are eligible for WIC , and Medical most likely you’ll be eligible for CalFresh. When approved for any of the above they will let you know if you qualify for CalWorks and if you would like to receive those benefits as well. Good luck 🍀

You should still apply- even if your income is over the limit for CalWorks, you may still be eligible for Calfresh and MediCal. Depending on your citizenship status, you may not be aided for Calworks/Calfresh- they’ll want you to provide verification of your current status, but your kids/husband will still be aided. If you’re pregnant or just had a baby, you still might be eligible for Medical.

@Genevieve we have medical just not calfresh/ calworks
