Flying with virgin alantic

Hi has anyone travelled with virgin atlantic past 28weeks pregnant? The policy states a fitness to fly from a doctor but my midwife is happy to sign the form, but she said maybe check with the airline before hand to just confirm. I have contacted them but been waiting ages for a reply. Just seeing if anyone else has had the same experience. Many thanks :)

Not sure with Virgin Atlantic but I just had this with Ethiad - I had a fit to fly from the midwife which was fine on the way out but Ethiad argued it on the way back, they nearly didn’t let me on the flight. So I would get from the Doctors at 28 weeks ( I am 23 weeks, so really didn’t think it would be a issue but it was !! )

Flew with BA at 31 weeks. You need a fit to fly, even though the law protects you up until 28 weeks they can be pains in the arses. I was stopped by BA and Qatar Airways, grilled and asked to produce fit to flys for check in (both in the UK and returning airports) throughout my pregnancy including when only 22/24 weeks last time. Get your midwife to write you one up, check your health insurance covers you and just be ready to have an argument especially when returning as non UK check in staff are contractors (so not actually Virgin). I’ve carried one now for every flight 😊

I’m flying with emirates next week and I’ve had to get a fit to fly, going out there isn’t a problem it’s coming back to the uk. I’ll be 22 weeks when we fly and 25 when we come back but i look further along than I am so they have told me I need one.

I will be 25 weeks when I fly to New York on Sunday with BA and I’ve got a letter from my midwife who suggested I call to check if it would be enough and when I did he said that’s fine as they allow up to 35 weeks! Gonna wear something baggy though. Is there a number you can call so don’t have to wait for a reply?

@Lydia I would say try to get one. BA staff at JFK were super pissy with mr over a fit to fly, they don’t care about their policy and it’s their discretion apparently xx

@Sarah oh blimey ok thank you for the heads up! X

@Lydia I did have one but they still required the manager to “assess me”. Argued they have risk assessments to make despite me quoting their own 28 week policy back at them. In the end I said, “feel free to call her” as my obstetrician had her number on there and details of the hospital. That seemed to quash it but they were pissy af and scowling. BA overseas check in staff are contractors so never expect BA customer service 🤣 just put up a fight if they try anything. The next flight I took with BA I had nothing said, it’s pot luck with the staff anywhere. Enjoy NYC though!! Xx

I flew to Vancouver at 21wks and returned at 24wks with BA recently. A midwife signed BA’s fit to fly form before I went but I didn’t get asked for it on either flight.

I am due Jan 8th and was due to fly to Jamaica the beginning of Dec, when I cancelled they said I had to provide a not fit to fly certificate to get any money back. I think you need a certificate eitherway. It’s best to have because worst case sceniro something happens it will also help with insurance etc too x
