Child Maintenance - paying for children he lives with?

My ex lives with his girlfriend and her child and having declared he lives with this other child, the child maintenance payments that he pays for our daughter has gone down. He does not have parental responsibility of her child, and I’m pretty sure her child’s father is in the picture, so she likely already gets child maintenance for them. Is it correct that just because he lives with another child that he has to pay me less towards our daughter? Thought I’d question on here for other people’s experiences before I question with child maintenance.

From my understanding, yes but it's ridiculous imo.

Yes that's correct

@Alex isn’t it! Especially when the child’s father is already paying towards them 🤦🏻‍♀️

Unless they're biologically his, it shouldn't make a difference. Most of the time they're already paying a stupidly low amount compared to what mum has to pay but 🤷🏻‍♀️ While child maintenance is great, it definitely has it's flaws.

Yes that's correct, he may not have any responsibility in law but he has a responsibility to contribute to the household he's living in

The games these men get to play 🙄

@Heather unfortunately his money doesn’t go towards her child, just his upkeep (if he even pays anything towards rent etc, because he wasn’t a few months ago) and new toys and games for himself, so it’s definitely frustrating 😞

@Jane so frustrating isn’t it! Especially when it’s so obvious he has no input into that other child’s life and posts online about the new toys and games he’s constantly buying 🙄 as far as I’m aware he’s living rent free at his girlfriends too, or at least he was a few months ago 😂

That's a ridiculous stupid rule that unfortunately is true.

We call that a hobo Sexual 🧟‍♂️

I mean that CMS calculates that they'd be paying towards the household but many of them don't My ex being one of them, he was originally meant to pay £5 a week but he moved in with someone with a son so his calculation dropped to £2.50 a week but as he was on disability benefits they couldn't MAKE him pay incase it caused hardship yet they got more in benefits and not working than I earned and having to pay for childcare for our son! Makes me sick they get away with it

@Heather £2.50!? I thought the minimum was £7? Wow, may aswell not even pay that's an INSULT

@R 🪬 this was a few years ago, my son is now 24

@Heather Oh okay, that's terrible regardless even now the required pay by some parents are shocking. I don't know about you but a few pound a week doesn't stretch far!

It really doesn't but the fact he refused to even pay it annoyed me so much!

@Heather so so bad!! I wonder if that's changed now? I didn't know you didn't have to pay if you're on disability payments. That is such a dumb excuse. I take it there's zero contact between him and your son now?

@R 🪬 he didn't have contact with our son until he was 19 and no longer liable for maintenance 🙄 And of course claims he couldn't afford it I think k now if they're on benefits it's taken before the person gets their benefits so they have to pay as it should have always been
