New OBGYN for delivery

I switched at 26 weeks due to relocating and I liked my first doctor. I have my second appt with the new doctor this week. He seems nice but if anything throws me off, I’ll switch again. If you don’t feel right in your gut, I’d look into switching. You have time to get to know them. Transferring records was a bit annoying but doable.

@Megan My pregnancy is high risk & I’m so annoyed that I have to consider doing this so far in my pregnancy but you’re right, it is doable. Thanks for commenting

High risk here too! For at least 4 reasons including blood pressure, age, prescribed meds… trying not to stress about it as things have gone relatively smoothly so far. I need a C section too because of severe back problems that may paralyze me if I try to push out a baby. I plan to tour the hospital and meet everyone. I’ve been trying to be my own advocate because all I am to these people is my records on paper… they don’t know me yet. And I don’t trust doctors… which is scary since they’ll be cutting me open. So I feel your pain. I would switch again if I didn’t feel like I was getting what I need.

High risk as well! Age and placenta previa. I switched at 20 weeks, and I’m not sure if I made the right move. Especially facing a c-section. I have a bunch of questions for my doctor at my next appointment and i hope i feel confident in my choice after I get answers. But it is so daunting making these big decisions when it all feels so impersonal sometimes

I’m in the same boat at 27 weeks. My doula supports my decision. Most complications happen in third trimester, and you don’t want to get stuck with an OB who is making you feel uncomfortable or unsupported.

I switched from traditional OB office/practice to a birthing center around 24wks.

@Megan Believe me, I can relate..I have high blood pressure, I’ve had a stillborn, & had surgery at 17 wks to have my cervix stitched closed (cerclage) due to a history of incompetent cervix. I won’t be changing hospitals, only changing Dr’s. I love the hospital I chose, I delivered my son there 2 years ago. You’re right though, we have to advocate for ourselves nowadays because the Dr’s are just there for the money. No one truly cares anymore. I just know it takes time to research a better Dr & I’ll have to catch them up on my history plus get to know someone new..I’m annoyed. I’m sorry to hear you’re experiencing so much..prayers you have a healthy labor/delivery!

@Liz You’re right, it feels impersonal like a business transaction. My advice would be to express your concerns & make sure your Dr is aware that you recently switched providers. Hopefully you get the clarity you need. Wishing you a healthy labor/delivery no matter what!

@Angelique “Q” It’s good you have a doula that can give you their input. My issues are more with the office staff, nurses, & sonographer, but I feel like my Dr isn’t doing anything about it. I’m going to have a talk with her at my appointment on Thursday & that will determine my next move. If she’s even the slightest bit defensive about how rude her staff is, I’m going to find another Dr. I hope you find one that you feel comfortable with!

@Sarah That’s a big switch at 24 weeks. How is it going so far? I may do some additional research on birthing centers. I just feel like I don’t have much time!

My clinic makes me see all the doctors in the clinic so everyone knows my chart etc

I switched at around 33 weeks with my last pregnancy but it was from a team of CNM's (Certified Nurse Midwives) that would be delivering in a hospital birthing center to a CPM (Certified Professional Midwife) who would be able to do a home birth (which is what I wanted!) Everything went extremely well and I'm having the same CPM and her assistant deliver this baby as well but if any red flags were to come up, I wouldn't hesitate to look into other options. Giving birth is so intimate and can make you feel so vulnerable and I believe it's super important to have a team of people who make you feel as safe and comfortable as possible so that you can have the best possible experience and outcome.

@Gabrielle My overall issue is with the staff at the clinic so I’d rather not try other doctors there. I’ll just look into switching clinics all together
