Getting enough fruit and veg

I’m 13 weeks with my first baby and I’m struggling to eat 5 or more fruit and veg a day. Does anyone have any good recipes or tips they used to get more veg in? Feeling guilty for not always having enough for baby. I enjoy apple, cucumber and oranges with breakfast and lunch currently, so looking to expand.

I'm pregnant with my second and even with my first I didn't eat five a day so don't stress about that. I just made sure I was avoiding all the food that they say not to have. I would say if you like strawberries and raspberries definitely grab some. I love them and sometimes snack on them and grapes. In terms of veg, peas and sweetcorn or brocoli with an evening meal. Or bell peppers. Again I love snacking in cucumber and bell peppers. Hope these give you some ideas x

Don’t put so much pressure on yourself!! I hardly ate fruit or veg whilst I was pregnant as i found it disgusting and couldn’t stomach it😂😂 I literally lived off crisps, chocolate, sweets & ice lollies the whole 9 months with both of mine🤦🏼‍♀️ your baby will be fine.

Thank you both! I’m definitely putting pressure on myself. I’ve avoided all foods I shouldn’t have and will continue to try and get in what I can. Brocoli the other day made me feel sick 😂

@Georgie just because you are pregnant don’t feel like you have to eat healthy all the time lovely! I survived off fruit tictacs the whole day during one of my pregnancies as that’s all I could stomach😂 Both my kids turned out perfectly healthy!

Whilst it’s good to have a healthy balanced diet, pregnant or not, don’t go stressing yourself out by counting things. Eat responsively and listen to your body. Whilst I wouldn’t recommend it, I ate a diet of lots of McDonalds and Haribo whilst pregnant!

Honey I'm 19 weeks and barely touching 1 or 2 a day most days. I just can't. Im taking vitamins still though. Just eat what you're able to. Cereal is a good if you can stomach that? You're not alone 💖

Smoothies or Mixed in with yoghurt. If you haven’t got sickness yet try but once it hits just eat what you can when you want it so you are fed. Baby will be fine. If your anxious take a vitamin tablet

My midwife used to make me have a banana, spinach and orange juice smoothie to get iron in and that was about all I could stomach x

I literally didn't keep anything down, now even water for 35+ weeks. I really wouldn't worry! When I did keep something down it was dry pitta bread, apple or jelly, and no joke that diet lasted months and months. Your body will take form you to feed baby! Obviously you wanna eat good for your benefit if you can but don't feel guilty your harming baby x

@Lisa me too 😅 fast food was the only thing that sounded good 🫠

Im super nauseous so fruit and veg smoothies with protein powder are being life saving and ensuring I get some veg in

Thank you, smoothies sound a good idea! I’ll try that ☺️ I keep fancying carbs, especially sourdough! And sweet things 🙈

I always made sure I had at least 3 veggies with my meal so even if I had pizza, I’d have salad on the side with a mixture of veggies, or if I had chilli, I’d make sure I add some corn have guacamole on the side and add lots of tomatoes or something. That way you can always have the food you usually would just with additional veggies 😊

Smoothies and juices for me I got all my 5 in the one cup 😂 whatever else I can fit in the day is bonus. Yoghurt muesli and berries for breakfast etc. Any veggies/fruits starting to go soft I add those into a smoothie or if it’s something like celery, greens etc I juice. I buy the bags of veggies on the clearance shelf (at veggie store) for $1 a bag and juice them

There's no 1 size fits all hun, maybe try making a smoothie in the morning with your fav fruits and a few non hard flavoured veg? But realistically during pregnancy your body knows what it wants and needs that's why we get crazy cravings. When I was pregnant I craved food I hated before! Xx

I had a lot of fruit smoothies, and I would put protein powder and powdered greens in them. It was something I could eat/drink that didn't make me sick or nauseous. Just make sure the powdered greens don't have caffeine or green tea. Caffeine and green tea should be limited during pregnancy, so I just got powdered greens that didn't have them.
