Can i eat leftovers?

Hello girlies! I am 5 weeks pregnant and it's all so overwhelming! 😅 I feel like anything I do is a danger to the baby, there's so many lifestyle changes you have to make, it feels like too much sometimes. I've been told I can't eat leftovers, but I have a full time job, I can't cook every single day!And it's just me and my husband, there's going to be leftovers. I understand not eating 2 or 3 day old food, but if I cook something tonight, can I have it again tomorrow evening if it's been in the fridge? It's so confusing 😅😅 Thank you in advance x

I ate leftover tacos all the time while pregnant 😆

I’m not sure why you wouldn’t be able to eat leftovers, but if I ever had any food to be leftover, I would for sure have eaten it🤣 I was so greedy and never full! I’m jealous you’re able to eat at 5 weeks. Morning sickness hated it!

Omg whoever told you this is just making you worry! The NHS says nothing about leftovers - all it says is which foods to avoid. You can absolutely eat leftovers, just follow your own common sense like you always have done ☺️ Like you say, as long as you are eating them within 1-2 days then you'll be fine, and as long as you don't leave them out on the side for ages before refrigerating. The only reason people must say this is because when you're pregnant, food poisoning (specifically listeria) can make you more unwell and obviously risk the baby too. But you don't need to change anything you were probably doing before anyway if you practice basic food hygiene - I doubt you have made yourself ill before and if you have, you will know what you did wrong and wouldn't repeat the mistake again! I never stopped eating leftovers and I'm 34 weeks pregnant now ☺️

@Candice 🤣 they must have been some tasty tacos!

@Jaymie bless you! I don't have any symptoms yet. I thought morning sickness started around 6 weeks, so you never know. I've been spared.. For now 😅

@Hannah thank you, yes I keep everything refrigerated as soon as it's cooled down once cooked. So hopefully should be okay :)

What?! I've had soooo many leftovers during my pregnancy!!! It's usually all I eat for lunch cause I'm lazy 🤣 Just make sure you heat things thoroughly and such!

Stick to the NHS list of foods to avoid and don't listen to anyone else 👍🏻

i’ve literally been eating leftovers from 5 days prior i’m almost 30 weeks never gotten sick nor have i heard that before 😭

Never heard that in my life

What? I eat leftovers all the time! I just would feel icky looking at them sometimes and not want to eat them which was a bummer when I made something I really wanted to eat.

Oh my God yes, honestly even foods like lunch meat/hot dogs/etc are okay in moderation too. Limit things with mercury and nitrates but you can still eat relatively normal

There’s not much you need to change. You can of course have leftovers. Just obviously don’t leave something out all day and then eat it. But I wouldn’t do that even not pregnant. And then don’t have alcohol or smoke. But other than that you can still do everything you once did.

I've been eating leftovers and batch cooking since I found out and I'm now 35 weeks. That's just being silly, as long as it's reheated and stored properly then no issues. People just get silly in pregnancy. We batch cook at home because we both work shifts and my 4 year old step son is with us full time too. So we are always cooking food for the week. The main concern is Listeria but even that, in the UK is incredibly rare!!!! I've actually found really the biggest change for me was no alcohol. In the UK most our foods are safe, a lot of our cheeses are already pasteurised, I avoid meats from a deli but packaged is fine. Cooked is fine. When I first found out I had this immediate feeling "oh my god all this food I can't eat" then actually reading the food guidelines and reading UK food labels. Found I wasn't actually that bad off 😂

I've never heard not eating leftovers. I honestly didn't make too many lifestyle changes during my pregnancy...obviously avoided alcohol, deli meat and raw fish but other than that I ate my regular diet.

I have never heard this about left overs... You just have to have common sense when it comes to these things, make sure the food has been stored properly. Reheated properly, like you usually would 🤷‍♀️ I recently stayed off grid in the mountains for 2 weeks in the summer, no electricity. Having to eat what food there was and left over with no fridge. Obviously all vegetarian and cheese. Eat them left overs now! 🤣

I’ve never been told not to eat leftovers, first time hearing that. But I’ve been eating the same thing (leftovers) for 5 days (today) 😂😂😂

You can realistically eat anything you want it just has to follow the guidelines of what’s safe like raw fish is a no because of improper packaging/ preparation concerns and many fish are too high in mercury like tuna but I know many women who have eaten it in moderation and baby has been fine lunch meat at least in Canada is pretty much all safe since it is treated for listeria which is the concern for that never did much research on unpasteurized dairy since Canada doesn’t sell in grocery stores but I’m sure there’s many women and studies that will tell you it’s safe in moderation the concern is bacteria botulism, ecoli, salmonella etc so I’d say if you wouldn’t eat it when you weren’t pregnant don’t eat it now but if it’s a day or two old and has been properly stored it’s fine to eat
