Weaning - Anyone else struggling?

Hey, my little girl will be 9 months soon. I have found the weaning journey really difficult! I have now found that she prefers pouches and will scoff those, but when it comes to home cooked she doesn’t eat half as much. I have also really tried with some finger foods: toast, omelettes, pancakes and pin wheels but she is just not interested in them. Considering the girl puts everything she’s not supposed to in her mouth, home cooked foods aren’t one of them😂😫. I know it’s not her main source of food, but I’m just wondering is anyone else’s little one the same or have any tips?! I’m so conscious that she can’t just have pouches all the time but want to make sure she is eating

I struggle with ideas for food and finger foods are a nightmare. He gets more down him then in him. I'm surviving with pouches or jars for now so he gets used to different flavours and textures. I've only just interested porridge today 😳 untill now he's been on 1 meal a day as I couldn't work out how to add an extra 🤦‍♀️ it's so confusing and nerve racking. As long as your daughter is getting her milk intake then anything else is a bonus

I think a lot of us are in the same boat! ❤️

I am not enjoying the process if I’m honest😂 I do a jar everyday, i choose an easy life haha! I also add fruit into one of those net things that she can hold

My little boy is 8 months old and hardly eats anything. Some times he'll go days without eating a single thing. He's very loyal to the booby 😅

Same here 🙌 I wouldn't say it's going badly as she does give everything a try, she seems to get the feeding thing, but just doesn't actually consume very much yet. She's still demolishing bottles like mad. I'm thinking they'll get there when they're ready.

Could have written this! My boys is way more interested in pouches than what I cook! I started mixing some of mine and a pouch of a similar meal which I found worked. Mines completely going off his milk now though so I’m even more stressed than I was!! HATE weaning

This is reassuring. My little boy is mainly on pouches! I fele bad I've not intotrocued 'real' food yet but its my plan when we get home from holiday. He likes weatbix for breakfast but been too nervous to introduce many more lumps and textures!

My boy is the opposite he decided BLW was for him and I’m struggling with thinking of what to give him every day. Some days he has breakfast and lunch other days he has lunch and dinner and other days he just has snackie bits. It’s such a struggle but I’m sure bub will get there with it. I’ve always eaten with my baby and in front of my baby he’s shown me he learns by watching as he knows how to brush his teeth. Well he knows where to put the toothbrush and swirls it round his mouth. My other struggle is that I don’t eat meat and haven’t eaten meat for 10 years but I’m bringing my boy up with everything and if he decides he’s vegetarian then that’s up to him. But don’t give up with it they get there in the end! Xx

My LB prefers the jars and even if i made the same he wouldn't eat it. How he can tell I have no idea! I tried a few finger foods but he wasn't interested in that either. I worry as he starts nursery in 3 weeks and doesn't eat much and refuses a bottle 😬

I found weaning stressful until I decided to just give him a baby friendly version of what ever we were having and he has picked it up so quickly watching us eat the same things as him. I just kept offering even if he didn’t eat it and he eventually he would give it a go.

Is he OK with chewing and swallowing? That's my main concern but know I need to let him figure it out! How small do you cut things? I gave him pasta the other day and cut eat pasta bit into smaller bits! I've bought the star pasta now so might try that soon!

Thanks for the advice and reassurance everyone! I’ve decided there’s only one answer.. I’m clearly a terrible cook😂😂. Just kidding we will keep trying! Xx

@Megan me and my partner do this. We both eat different things so babe has a mix of both our dinners and he loves it xx

Mine is the same, anything I make her myself ends up wasted as she doesn’t seem to want it. I end up giving her a pouch for ease and to waste less food. I gave her a baby friendly version of our spaghetti bolognese that I cooked yesterday and after 2 spoons of it she threw up 🤦🏼‍♀️ maybe it’s just my cooking she doesn’t like 🤷🏼‍♀️
