They can't diagnose proper diabetes in pregnancy, especially this late so it is probably gestational diabetes. It isn't all about sugar it is carbohydrates as well. So fruit is actually very difficult for most people to tolerate. Have a look at this website as it is a great source of info for GD. https://www.gestationaldiabetes.co.uk/ Of course check with your medical team etc but I'd expect it will be treated as gestational diabetes until you give birth then you get tested a few weeks later to see if you have proper diabetes.

You don’t actually eat healthy with gestational diabetes You’ll be told about food pairing which means eating way more fats than carbs. I can have a jacket potato or pasta with half a block of cheese. Fruit should be avoided. I’m 94% in target and I’ve lived off cheese. And yer, would be GD as it’s from your placenta and hormones so not really possible to diagnose normal diabetes right now

@Tanya I had a home visit with my midwife today and she said that me and baby will be monitored after birth she has recommended that I express some breast milk ready for when I go in to have baby as breast milk is apparently sweet

@Carley I was like that at the start I had to have cheese with everything then as my pregnancy went on I totally went off cheese I had a gestational diabetes test on the 4th July and it came back as normal and they told me I hadn't got gestational diabetes 💁‍♀️

@Linda yes that's normal. I had GD in first pregnancy and this one, I did colostrum harvesting as well. GD can develop later in pregnancy, I was tested near the start and 16 weeks passed both times, got diagnosed at 27 weeks.

A lot of fruit should be avoided or only eaten in small quantities due to the sugar content in them! I was diagnosed with GD and have cut out a lot of fruit but eat more vegetables as these have no to little sugar in them so are much better for you blood sugar levels. The colostrum can help baby regulate their blood sugars after birth which is why they advise to do it, especially in women with GD😊
