ITCHY

Hi all, I’m in my first trimester and I am ITCHY. I was sporadically itchy for my first baby but this is a new level. It’s not itch from stretching as I haven’t started to stretch yet (3 weeks in). Did anyone experience this / have any suggestions?

I get rashes like this sporadically, sometimes from heat rash sometimes random things set it off. Taking antihistamines for a couple of days usually sets me right BUT I don't know if there are pregnancy safe ones so ask your doctor! For temporary relief try cold things, I rub an ice cube which feels very good, moisturise, DO NOT ITCH! I feel like that just makes it worse, or spreads the irritated area. Good luck!!

Back of the knees is a classic one for me too, it gets hot if you sit cross-legged or the material on office chairs are scratchy if you're wearing shorts, those are two things that trigger me lol

This happened to me, and is still happening in second trimester. I've heard it can happen because in pregnancy you can become more sensitive to things in general (some people react to food, skin products, heat, etc.). Definitely try your best not to ich it because it will only make it worse and more irritated. For me applying a soothing cream (I use calendula cream) to the area helps for some relief and I make sure to daily moisturise myself with neutral body lotion and have found that having less dry skin minimises it overall. I've also heard people suggest to try be attentive to what you eat and what your skin comes into contact with regularly incase something specific is triggering it. If it keeps persisting it's probably good to see your doctor about it :) 💕

Yeah those are hives, very likely an allergy to something! Mine gets like that if I scratch, definitely check with your doctor if it doesn't get better

@Luana definitely scratched hahahah soooo hard not to!

Definitely get yourself an antihistamine, (fexotabs, telfast, zyrtec, etc) they will reduce the itching, just check with the pharmacist to make sure they are safe to take during pregnancy.

@Kym ♡ unfortunately the pharmacist / doctor were all very unsure. Lots of differing opinions about what’s safe this early in pregnancy. So I am braving the itch hahah
