Epilepsy

Hi lovelies, I was wondering if anyone here is navigating pregnancy with epilepsy, especially during the second trimester, and experiencing irregular seizures. I've been living with epilepsy for over 14 years, so it's been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My neurologist has been amazing and has adjusted my medication to keep Bub safe. Thankfully, all my ultrasound appointments show that he’s growing healthy and strong. I also struggle with depression and anxiety, but lately, anxiety has been overwhelming me, as I worry about when the next seizure might come. I’d love to connect with anyone who might be going through a similar experience."

I have epilepsy also. I'm due in March. This is my second pregnancy. I had seizures in my first pregnancy, and my neurologist went up on my dose. I have to make an appointment with him regarding this pregnancy as well as I had my first seizure today. They did an ultrasound, and the baby was okay... just knowing I had a seizure today, and it's been 6 months since my last one makes me feel bad... I know it's probably all the hormones from pregnancy 😩

It's really nice to connect with someone who also has epilepsy. Sometimes it can feel isolating, like I'm the only one dealing with it. When they increased your dosage during your first pregnancy, do you think they might need to do the same this time around because you're pregnant again? 🫶🏻

@Grace I understand, and yes, I think my neurologist will increase my dosage again because I'm pregnant again. I remember in my first pregnancy, he told me that because of the hormones and other things my body was going through because of pregnancy, it could make the medicine less effective.

At the beginning of my second trimester, I was recently hospitalized due to severe vomiting, which caused me to throw up all of my epilepsy medication. As a result, I fainted and had a seizure. They increased the dosage of all my medications, except for carbamazepine, which they lowered because it's harmful to unborn babies. It's so frustrating having to deal with things like this.
