GD changing

Hi all, Can I ask how many have experienced Insulin resistance getting worse as time goes on? Is this every time or only some? I'm wondering if I'm managing on diet at 29 weeks, if it will get harder as I reach 32+ and il likely have to go on meds as Iv read it gets harder then but not sure if that's a definite and how much worse. I have to be quite strict as it is with diet to maintain

I don't think it's a given. I've been on medication from 28 weeks but it has been stable for a few weeks, and I'm 35 weeks now. Haven't noticed it getting worse from 32 weeks.

In my last pregnancy I changed my diet a lot to the point I was stressing over every little thing that I was eating to lower my sugars. My midwife told me off because I was losing weight in my pregnancy and said I can’t be so strict with it, it’s ok changing things then the further along I got the higher the dosage of insulin I needed. The diabetic team told me sometimes what you eat isn’t the problem it’s your hormones. So towards the end I realised it doesn’t matter what I did it was just going to do what it wanted to do. I was on about 40 units of insulin by the end

Thank you. I had 1 rich tea biscuit yesterday as a pudding as I wanted something sweet and it was after a meal that I knew didn't spike me as I had it the day before no issues. It sent me right up to 1 point below target. Just one rich tea biscuit! They are like the worst biscuits too. I'm scared that if that does that, it's going to become ridiculous.

I was eating a few digestives, honestly i wouldn’t stress too much, maybe wait until after your testing to have a few biscuits. That way your sugars from the carbs have time to come down before you have a little something

Yeah don't have pudding straight after your meal, wait until after you test. And it is best to pair them so have something protein/fat with it as well. Also have a look at this website as it has much better info than NHS and lots of GD friendly recipes including for sweet stuff that won't spike you. https://www.gestationaldiabetes.co.uk/recipe-index/

I ate the exact same meal ( GD diet approved) every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I even made smaller portions of the same meal for snacks. I started on 4/4/4 units of "instant release" insulin after meals and 10 units of overnight insulin. I ended up on 18 units of instant release and 28 units of overnight
