Weaning

So we started weaning our little one at 4 months and 2 weeks … she was more than ready and was showing a lot of interest Started her on kendamil baby porridge (she has kendamil first infant in her bottles) We have started to introduce purees into her diet, fruit and veg, I’m just wondering how much are we meant to be giving our little ones? She’s now 5 months and 1 week and today she’s had porridge and a bottle, small bit of apple puree in the afternoon and sweet potato puree in the evening, she’s had 4 bottles today also at 6oz … is this too much? She seems to be enjoying it but I’m just unsure if I’m giving her bits of puree 3x a day is too much? (It’s not a lot I would say she has like 10 spoonfuls before she’s starts messing with the spoon and the spoons are only small)

Just from our experience I was told as long as babe is wanting to eat it’s okay they will choose how much they want but we’re on BLW so I’m not sure if it’s different idk if that helps at all and obviously milk is the main sauce of food at that age so anything extra that she’s happy eating is good I think again only from what I’ve done with my little one I’m not trained in any way on this 😂 x

@Hannah ah so at first we were spoon feeding her and now she’s mastered to hold the spoon and stick it right in her mouth haha so we just keep putting the puree or porridge on the spoon and let her feed herself until she shows she’s done, so will this be ok?

I think so that’s what we’re doing it’s just about letting them decide if they want more or less as long as you’re giving the option which you are I don’t see any harm if you’re super worried you can always speak to your health visitor if your UK based or your peads doc if your elsewhere x

Hey, we started weaning a few weeks ago. At 5 months he is breast fed, so he will have a feed, then I offer some puree. He has about one pouch a day and we are letting him tell us when he is finished but then he goes straight back onto the boob after. From talking to the dietician and hv last week, they said to just keep giving them milk as that is still where the most nutrients are and as we started weaning 'early' it's beneficial still. Also make sure your offering veg first, so they don't get accustomed to the sweeter things and reject the vegetables.

I was told to begin with a single ice cube worth once a day is enough as their main source of food should still be milk until 1. So up until 7 months 1 meal. Then 8- 10ish 2 meals then 11 to 12, 3 meals maybe introducing a snack after 1 3 meals and 2 snacks
