Our first appointment with a dietician was a group session, pretty much just educating everyone on cmpa and steps to take when it comes to weaning. Your then given their contact details so if you do have any issues with weaning and baby starts to experience other allergens, they’ll offer support and then ask your gp to refer to the allergy clinic. They’ll also talk a little about the milk ladder and how to introduce dairy into this diet again a little at a time

Ours was a presentation educating people on CMPA, and what to do when weaning/giving foods! Honestly, for me it was pointless because she’s nearly 2yrs old and the group was aimed for 6-18months 😂 I had already done lots of my own research so it was just re-telling me what I knew! They did give me the ladder, and what to offer etc! I have a phone call with the dietitian in February to see how we’ve gotten on x

Our first appointment was 1-1 and we just basically went over all her symptoms and the dietician agreed that it was definitely cmpa. We asked about the what the plan would be regarding weaning so she explained to us about other allergens and how we had to introduce them. I also asked when we’d reintroduce dairy and was told they have to be 9m dairy free I think it was before starting the milk ladder. We then had follow up appointments checking how we’re doing with weaning and other allergens until we started the milk ladder

Our dietitian appointment is tomorrow aswell, my baby is currently 4 months old 🙂

@Melissa thank you! helpful to hear from somebody else in leicestershire

@Emily oh wow😂 i wonder why they actually bothered referring you to a presentation at that point! hope she’s getting on well x

@Jess this is honestly what i was hoping for! but doesn’t sound like that’s the process over here😕

@Rebecca good luck! my lb is five months🐙

Ours was the same as jess 1 to 1 phone call Spoke about symptoms, what milk she was on, how much she was drinking, informed me of reading labels to wean dairy free etc We was discharged due to ige symptoms We got referred again and went through the same process but haven't been discharged yet I believe but this time I was told to introduce oat milk to her foods and do the ladder at around 15months old She's 10 months in 6 days

Sorry not an answer to your question but how did you get the dietician referral and when was it done? My LG is 12 weeks old and has suspected CMPA so is on nutramigen. Will the GP eventually refer her or is this is something I need to ask for in a few months time?

@Reema my health visitor actually done the referral for me! The gp didn't mention doing a referral at all. I do believe it was at his 8 week check up

Also got a dietitian appointment tomorrow!

@Reema it’s something that they should be doing straight away but seem to neglect, unfortunately. go back asap and request a referral to a dietician as there’s often a bit of a waiting list. it took me 3-4 doctors to get this far and the last doctor said that the referral should’ve been made straight away😮‍💨 x

@Zane Grisina @Jodie thank you both! I’ll try to contact the GP to get this done. If not will get in touch with my health visitor. I did request a repeat prescription for the nutramigen and I thought they would speak with me to reintroduce the home milk challenge but they just prescribed it without any contact with me so I assume they will might to do this before making a referral

@Reema they suggested I do the milk challenge before the dietitian appointment anyway to discuss results with them, I've heard that it's standard practice for dietitians to ask for a home a milk challenge x

@Zane Grisina yeah I thought the GP would ask me to try that before giving me more milk but they didn’t which I found strange because I thought the guidance is for baby to trial the milk then do the challenge so CMPA diagnosis can be confirmed x

@Reema they might wait slightly longer before you do it? I think I had to do it around week 6 of being on new milk x

@Zane Grisina ohh that makes sense! She’s only been on it for 2+ weeks. Thank you for your help x

@Jodie they’ve been great honestly. If you have any questions please feel free to message me. We’ve been through testing and all sorts x

@Reema we never got asked to do the milk challenge either. I've just had an appointment with the dietician and she asked about that. However, it would appear my baby is reacting to the cows milk protein in the hydrolysed formula as she's going red and blotchy during feeds, so we're now trialling Neocate for a month 😑

@Rebecca mine didn't even mention the milk challenge so it seems as we done it for no reason! I hope your little one takes well to neocate. My gp said that the taste is horrible but my little boy took to it straight away

@Rebecca it’s so strange how different places have different policies!I hope your little one feels better soon. Her/ his allergy must be more severe then as they initially give the one which still contains cow protein but it’s less likely to cause an allergy. Hopefully now she/ he is on Neocate they should feel better x
