Made unemployed whilst on maternity leave

I know this is a bit of odd one and probably uncommon but has anyone had experience in being made unemployed whilst being on maternity leave without any real reasoning? I was made unemployed at the end of December last year (2 months into my mat leave) without any reasoning or formal letter. I had been working there 11 months in total, completed all of my required hours prior to my son's birth..there were discussions of potential cut backs within the company therefore there was a chance that I would be affected. Right up til the beginning of my mat leave I continuously asked management about the certainty of the end of my contact but no one could give me a straight answer and was told to "prepare for termination". (May I add, my manager at the time of my employment was actually forced to step down and leave the company due to an investigation into his treatment of staff and his role as a manager so there were managers from other sites stepping to help out in the meantime). I have not been recieving any sort of maternity pay since leaving as they gave me what I would have been paid in a lump sum (this was heavily taxed)... I think what I'm really trying to ask is if anyone has endured the same? Or does anyone know if I should take it further/where I stand with it all etc *I haven't done anything regarding this due to post partum mental health and wanting yo make sure that I was in a right frame of mind doing so and not allowing my emotions to cloud anything*

I would definitely speak with a solicitor - this seems highly illegal and you should be taking it further for a variety of reasons outlined above

PS I hope your mental health is doing better, sending hugs

@Tamsine thank you for replying to my post. Based on what yourself and others have said it sound like I'm not going mad and that I actually have somewhat of a case. Now that I'm in a better mind set I can clearly see the wrongdoings of this company...it's more shocking that this well know business has done this without any regard for their wrong doings. I have now taken my first steps and contacted citizens advice in hopes that I can get some answers x

You could contact ACAS as they should be able to help with how to deal with this. Then can consider next steps.
