Toddler friendly near NEC

My partner has a work event at the NEC, I’m thinking of joining with my 20 month old but we’ll have to find stuff to do in the daytime. I don’t drive unfortunately. Is there anything nearby that would keep me and my toddler busy for a few hours (ideally!)? He’s very active so cinema wouldn’t work! I’ve seen there’s a soft play at the resort world but only on Thursdays and this will be weekend

Resorts world will be very busy on a weekend. Don’t think there is anything child friendly there anyway. Is there anything on at the NEC you’s could attend ?

@Sara the event at the nec is the exhibition that his work is doing and it’s just a trade show so not very kid friendly either haha. Thanks for reply, good to know anyways!

@Jess yeah I thought so. I used to clean the events. You could get the x12 into Solihull. Go for lunch. See if there’s anything up there? Chelmsley wood is the other way on the x12 they have meridian park and meridian adventure playground. But you need to book online for that - although I’m sure it’s free. It used to be.

@Sara how long does it take to get to the park do you know? Can you get the x12 from the nec? X

You could try the Thinktank museum. They have a mini village for littles to explore, planetarium and the usual interactive exhibits. My lb loves it there. You can catch the train from Birmingham international train station (5 mins walk from NEC) then it’s a 15 min walk to the thinktank. They recommend giving yourself 4 hours to explore. So that should fill your day and if not, you’re in the city centre, so you can always find something else to do to pass the time. https://www.birminghammuseums.org.uk/thinktank/visit/how-to-get-here

@Jess yeah you can. It’s not far. Google meridian adventure playground x

There is a soft play not too far away called Claudie’s club which you could get the bus too. Really nice & clean x

If you go to Claudie’s it will need to be pre booked online. They do accept walk ins but majority of the time they get booked up.

@Lauren this would be good but it says it’s 40 mins by bus :( x

I would go into Solihull town centre, get the x12 bus. Mirabellas play cafe is perfect for son’s age, plus there’s 3 parks to choose from if the weather is decent. Soft play is a 1.5 hour session so with your bus ride and maybe some lunch it makes a petty full day out! Also the library is free and has a play mat and board books etc x
