Gestational diabetes

Does anyone else have GD and been put on insulin? Just been told I’ll be induced at 28 weeks and if he continues to grow the way he is then it may be earlier😅 looks like I might be having a November baby

Have for each of my pregnancies. First two were born at 37+4, trying to get this one delivered at 38+3! But, just to say, they measured my first at about 10lbs, and he came out at 5lbs! So sometimes the scans can be misleading. Try to get them to monitor you and ask them if they can induce slightly later where possible. But of course, baby's health comes first! Good luck, mama!

@Natallia I’ve got scans constantly and feel like I’m being quite well looked after at the moment so I hope it stays this way! He’s measuring 91.5 percentile at the moment so they’re keeping a close eye on me, but I was booked in for regular scans before all of this due to other complications! Anything after 37 weeks I’m happy with as it’s considered full term but Im just a bit worried as she said if his growth stays like this they may induce me earlier if he hasn’t come naturally x

Original post meant to say 38 weeks not 28 obviously 🤣🤣 x

28 weeks?! I'm hoping that's a typo 😬😬 I've got a GD test booked in for Friday along with numerous other appointments xx Edit just seen your comment confirming. Thank God 😅😂 you had me panicking for a moment lol xx

@Billie honestly I went and slept in my car for 2 hours after the first blood test 🤣🤣🤣 such a pain in the arse appointment x

@Courtney oh, I thought you had to stay where they were doing it 🤔😂 xx

@Billie I think you can leave they just prefer you to stay, the waiting room is too hot so I told them I was off to sit in my car and I’d come back in for the next one and they was fine with that x

I have GD, currently 32 weeks with baby number two on 2000mg of Metformin and evening insulin, I had a growth scan today and she's actually measuring small and on the 40th centile I was made aware when I went to my GD midwife to get the insulin that induction will be from 38 weeks but with her measuring small I'm hoping I can delay induction 😬 x

I'm currently growing a very big baby who might get induced at 35 weeks, and I have type 1 diabetes and have been taking daily insulin for 25 years. If you need any support on how it is to take insulin reach out!

I've got GD just started on insulin for fasting levels. But after meals are fine. Dr told me their hospital "policy" is to induce at 39 weeks for diet controlled, 38 for metformin ,and 37 for insulin. But NICE guidelines actually say if diabetes is controlled ( whichever method by) then induction should be offered at 40+6. If all my scans show baby and placenta are happy and healthy, and my sugars are controlled. I'll be going naturally..and at no point will anyone be " telling " me what is happening or " allowing" me to do anything because birth choices are our legal right . Also growth scans can be massively inaccurate, and the guidelines also state that induction shouldn't be become ded just because a baby is "big". There's also the fact that indiction can raise the risk or shoulder dystocia to consider. I've told my midwives and consultant that my plan at the minute is a water birth in a midwife led unit. Obviously if anything changes along the way with me, baby. My sugars the placenta etc I will...

Re-asses the situation and my plan, but that will be based on having all the information available about any risks and benefits of any and all.optopns, and then making a decision with informed consent. I absolutely hate how they say they won't let you do things or just talking like " oh we will get you booked in" without even having a discussion or asking what the birthing person wants!

Yes - first pregnancy was diagnosed at 28 weeks, put on metformin and insulin straight away. Was induced at 39+2, but I didn’t actually have her until 40 weeks exactly. She was measuring 50th centile the whole way through the pregnancy and I feel as though I was scaremongered into induction. This pregnancy was diagnosed at 14 weeks and been on metformin and insulin since 15 weeks, not sure on their advice yet for induction this time but if baby is measuring fine then I’m likely going to push back to delay induction until due date. Good luck!
