IUD and supply

I'm going to ask my doctor for an IUD at my upcoming appt but I am worried it'll affect my supply. Any moms have experience with this?

Mirena is the one that wont affect your supply according to my doctor

I had the mirena put in immediately after labor. No one told me it could impact my supply but I essentially have nothing. I breastfeed my baby throughout the day but it’s never enough and he primarily drinks formula. Only last week did lactation mention it could be the IUD. I’m super disappointed but I’m at 4 weeks pp and probably won’t have it removed now as the lc thinks it’s too late. I make about 3 oz every day.

The copper IUD doesn’t have any hormones so wouldn’t affect your supply, however has other side effects. The hormonal IUDs like mirena could potentially have some effect on your supply, although it would be unlikely as they don’t have the same hormones. If you’re concerned, doing additional pumping to start with shortly before you get it inserted should help to offset any potential dip in supply.
