Hi, I have just been referred for ivf funding with the nhs in bucks. From peoples experience, how long does it for funding to be approved & to actually start the process? Thanks 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Hi there! We’re Oxfordshire which came under Buckinghamshire’s radius I believe. No wait times currently under this funding, we got approved and heard from our chosen clinic with 10 days of submitting the paperwork!! I couldn’t believe it. From 1st IVF clinic appt to starting they told us 6 weeks! We’ve delayed by choice due to a holiday and will start November. I would say get the following documents in place: Passport number, Immunisations record from GP (they check rubella 2 x vaccines!), weigh yourself so you know your BMI, and make sure you’ve got proof of a cervical smear that’s in date. Good luck. Xx

I’m from Bucks. We got referred by our GP last July to John Radcliffe hospital, had our IVF funding appointment in December and started our first cycle in March. We chose to have our treatment in central London out of the 4 options they gave us. X

@Katrina wow! This is so positive! Our appointment is on Wednesday so I’m really hoping the paperwork for funding is started then and maybe it’s possible to begin by the end of the year 🙏🏼🙏🏼 I didn’t realise you get to choose a clinic. How on earth do you choose..?!

We did a lot of research as different areas have different success rates. We went with our closest clinic (Oxford) and know a few people who’ve done IVF there with great successes. We would have done London like Natalie above ^ but work schedules for spontaneous scans etc wouldn’t have been possible. So we’ll see! 😃 fingers crossed for you. X

We went to our specialist appt and walked away with a form at the JR and filled it in at home and sent it back, then 10 days later the IVF clinic booked us in for the initial pre treatment session. We’ve never had a funding appt or anything… so not sure what happened there for us! The lady in our appt at the JR was very ‘chill’ so perhaps she just skipped a step maybe? Not sure Xx

@Katrina Are you sure your clinic knows you’re wanting to NHS fund rather than privately fund? They definitely need to submit a funding application to your local ICB and you will normally get a letter from the NHS once this has been approved. Mine took several months!

Hi Helen, yes NHS funded, our NHS approval letter is on the clinic portal, we didn’t get one in the post or anything… we literally found out we were approved when the IVF Clinic called us 10 days after we sent the form in to the fertility specialists at the hospital. Sounds like we may have been super lucky to get going so quickly, I’m not sure… or our chosen clinic was just super speedy? They have no wait times at the moment for the clinic we chose so maybe that’s why too? Xx
