Formula prep anxiety

Hi all So I’m a first time mum, baby is formula feed due to arriving early and bing in NICU, feeding support has only been about breast feeding and the pumping etc has really taken a toll on my mental health. So glad I saw this group and now I’m going to ask stupid questions I am sure have been answered but any advice would be amazing. I have formula anxiety around prep so… Can I make up bottles to put in the fridge? Can you put ready to drink in sterilised bottles in the fridge? On the go tips … is a rapid cool the best option? If I put the teat and lid on sterilised bottles will they stay sterilised when out? Lastly how do people mange timing feed prep? My LO is 3 weeks now and he can be hungry every 1-4 hours no pattern 😂 Thanks in advance from a very overwhelmed mum ❤️

You can make up the bottles for the fridge and keep it for 24h but it might be tricky to heat it up. You shouldn't use the microwave but you can put it under running warm water or in a bowl of warm water. You can make the feed and keep it room temp for 2h as well. Or if you can, get a prep machine, that's the easiest way, it takes 2 mins. You can put ready to drink in the fridge but no need. Just keep it room temp and use when you need it. Rapid cool is a good option or you can use the ready made ones as well. Yes, if you put them on straight away from the steriliser, it will stay sterilise. For timing we use an app called onoco, it's really good, you can log all your feed, nappies, sleep and just make up the feed accordingly.

100% recommend a prep machine. Used mine for both babies. For out and about, I’ve heard lots of good things about the nuby rapid cool but my baby will drink a ready-made as it comes (doesn’t need it warmed up) so I just take those out on the go with a sterilised bottle and just pour it in when he’s ready to feed. Prep machine is amazing for being at home you don’t need to pre make any bottles just use the machine when baby is hungry they can have it instantly, you aren’t ‘aloud’ to put any formula in the fridge and if you pre make a bottle and baby decides they don’t want it you can only keep it for 1-2 hours after at room temperature then have to throw it away. If you are out and about I used to take a flask out of boiled water from kettle and a powder pot for the formula then make it up roughly when baby is due to make sure it cools down enough for them to drink and again if baby don’t drink within 2 hours throw it away. This is what I’ve been told and how I used to do my bottles, the midwives will tell you not to use a prep machine either but I’ve used it with me 2 and never had any problems. Also if the baby wants it warm or cold you can sit the bottle in a bowl of boiling water for a few minutes or cold water to cool it down quicker no microwave unfortunately. It gets easier❤️
