Son is worried about being a big boy 🥺

My son (3) won’t wear his pants. He can use the toilet for wees and did wear his pants for a few outings a while ago but now won’t wear them no matter what I do. I asked him today if there’s something worrying him and he said I’m not a grown up yet I’m still a little boy. It broke my heart, I think maybe because I’ve been talking a lot about him going to school etc he’s starting to feel the pressure to grow up. Any advice to make him feel less worried? I really am starting to panic that he’s still going to be wearing nappies when he’s 4!

Could you just go commando for a while? Also let him pick his own pants so he's excited to wear them

I suggest commando as well. I also used treats/rewards for trying to use the potty. Don't offer them for more then a few days, just enough to make it fun then faze them out

@Rachel we’ve done that but he just demands his nappy when he needs the toilet and goes absolutely crazy if I suggest the toilet. He also picked out his own pants when we first started. This is the problem, we’ve done the whole potty training thing and completed it but now he’s just refusing to do it! 😫

That's so tough. Maybe go back to nappies for a bit and read some potty training books. Maybe he just wasn't emotionally ready

Talk a lot about how in some ways he's a little boy and in some ways he's a big boy. Joke about how compared to a baby, he's a big boy. They just poop and sleep! But compared to an adult he's a little boy. There's lots he can't do until he's an adult like drive a car.

@Ella love that thank you

@Rachel yes it’s definitely an emotional thing rather than knowing how to do it. Thanks you ☺️
