special educational needs coordinator they probably want to have him evaluated a lot of the times these meetings are a bit overwhelming the evaluate your child to the last little bit of what they are doing and don’t do and it can be intimidating i’d say have someone go with you when results are in and advocate for your child if they need an aid

@Andrea They didn't mention anything about meeting. Just that class teacher gonna ask help from the school senco how to help my son to manage his outburst. Maybe meeting gonna be later? Im so confused and heart broken 💔

A SENCO or SENDCO are special educational needs (and disabilities) coordinator! In my job I work closely with our SENDCO A SENCO is someone who is typically more knowledgeable of special needs and referrals and support available normally have control of the budget to put therapies in place, fidget toys etc! Most SENCOs are bloody fabulous and can pull the paperwork together for referrals if needed but also tend to have a wealth of knowledge on what has worked for other children 1-1 TA 1-1 sessions Social stories Fidget toys Safe space Sensory room Therapy dogs Counselling My sons just started year 7 so a bit older than yours however in primary school he struggled massively outbursts, meltdowns, struggling to regulate! It’s good they’re recognising this so early and are reaching out for support The senco will offer support more ‘general’ and if that doesn’t help they will likely bring you in for a meeting for next steps!

If you’re in England (I guess so with saying yr1) Ask them to add him to the SEN register and ask them to put and IEP in place :) Don’t worry and stress or be upset over this! It’s a good step - your child is struggling and they want to support him! Good luck xx

It sounds like he may possibly need an EHCP. They may ask for the educational psychologist to visit him. We had the inclusion support team visit my daughter as she was pre verbal. Senco may ask the LA for extra funding. It might be worth finding out who sendiass is as they offer advice regarding schooling. Unfortunately it may be a fight to get your son the support he needs but worth it in the end.

Im a primary teacher and sen mummy. Every school has to have a SENDCO - special educational needs and disability coordinator. They are usually someone in management and depending on the size of the school and the amount of children with needs they may or may not also teach a class. They usually have good knowledge of a range of specific and non specific needs that children may have and if how they can help them. They can put plans in place alongside the teacher and if necessary point you in the right direction for further support and diagnosis. The main thing is that they will be able to put a plan in place to help him in school. My sons plan includes things like 1 to 1 support where available, more time to complete tasks, time out of the classroom when needed, extra intervention when he finds things difficult, use of noise cancelling headphones to block out distracting noise, wobble cushion on chair to help him concentrate.
